Haul: Mecca Maxima + First Impressions

On Monday, I was in Brisbane city with my sister-in-law and I had my first experience at Mecca Maxima. I had been drooling over their website for a few months now, but the in-store experience is definitely way more fun! I love swatching things on my hands to see colours on my own skintone, and check out the selections, brand by brand. I had a really good time, and chatted for a while with the lovely staff there. They were really friendly and helpful. I picked up some new items that I'm really excited to show you, so read on to see what I got ...

Too Faced Shadow Insurance Eye Primer (11g, $26.95 AUD)

This isn't technically a new product for me since I have been using a sample/travel size I received with a palette. Even though it was tiny, it has honestly lasted me for about 3 months! When I ran out, I knew I needed the full size. I love this primer so much! I have used so many different ones, from drugstore to high-end, including the cult favourite Urban Decay Primer Potion, but this one is by far my favourite.

Eyeshadow Insurance helps eyeshadow colours to appear more intense, makes your eyeshadow last all day/night and is not at all greasy on the lid. Best of all, a little goes a long way so this tube will last you a very long time! My sister-in-law also uses it and said her full size has lasted her almost a year. That's excellent value considering she uses it almost every day.

Hourglass Cosmetics Veil Mineral Primer SPF 15                               (Travel Size 10ml, $25 AUD)

This product has been on my wishlist for a long time! I'm sure many of you have heard people rave about this luxurious brand and their mineral primer. Hourglass Cosmetics claim that this primer leaves a clean, satin-finish while also moisturising the skin and protecting it from the sun.

Unfortunately, it does come with a steep price tag of $79 AUD for 30ml. I was really excited to see that Mecca offer a travel size of the primer which will only cost you $25 for 10ml. I think this is a great way to trial this product & see if you like it enough to pay for the the full size. I have only tried this product on the top of my hand in store but it felt very silky and luxurious. I will review this product in more detail soon!

Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient Lighting Blush in Radiant Magenta ($50 AUD)

Another product from the luxurious Hourglass Cosmetics brand. These Ambient Lighting blushes have also been very hyped recently throughout the beauty community. After swatching all the different colours in store, the one that caught my eye the most is the shade 'Radiant Magenta'. These blushes are supposed to give off a very soft, diffused glow. Each of the six blushes contains a shade of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder mixed with the blush shade, which is why it has a swirled effect. The blush itself, is a gorgeous bright pink colour which is quite pigmented. You need to use a very light hand with this one to achieve a subtle glowing look. I've only used the blush once but I'm loving it so far. I'm still deciding if it's worth the price tag! I'll keep you posted.

Stila All Over Shimmer Powder in Kitten ($32 AUD)

This duo contain two iridescent shades that can be used on the eyes, cheeks or all over the face to create a glowing and luminous look.

I have only used this duo twice now, but I enjoy using the lighter colour as a highlight for the inner corner of my eyes and underneath my brow bones, as well as on my cheekbones and cupid's bow. It's such a pretty highlight colour.

The second shade is a rose gold colour, perfect to use as an eyeshadow lid shade or as a blush. I love this product so far because it's so compact, easy for travel and multi-purpose, it can be used in so many different ways.

Wearing the Stila All Over Shimmer Powder in Kitten:
Lighter shade on cheekbones, browbones & cupid's bow - Darker shade on cheeks

I hope you enjoyed my haul! Please let me know if you'd like to see some individual reviews on any of the products mentioned. What are your new favourite purchases?

  1. I so badly want one of those Hourglass blushes, and also the powders. They just look so beautiful, but I wish they were cheaper. I love Mecca, we don't have Maxima in NZ but we do have Cosmetica and I love going and looking at the high end stuff, and buying a thing or two.

  2. Hahah the Hourglass primer is cheaper if you buy 3 lots of the travel size than it is to buy the full size :P

  3. What an awesome haul!! Been lusting after the Hourglass blush (huge fan of Dim Light) and the Hourglass Primer for ages :)) So excited about stumbling upon another aussie blogger by the way! I have followed you xx Make Me Up Mandy

  4. Oooo! I need the Stila All Over Shimmer Powder.
