How-To: Going Out Makeup Look

Everyone loves a good Going Out Makeup Tutorial! They are always my favourite to watch on Youtube or to read on other blogs. A few weekends ago, I was heading out to have some drinks with friends and I put together this look in about 30 minutes! Not too bad :) I was really happy with how it turned out so I thought I'd put together a quick post about it so you can see how easy it is to achieve this look. All products mentioned are linked for easy reference!

Base

I started this look by moisturising with my Stila One Step Correct, followed by my Rimmel Stay Matte Primer which keeps all shine and oil at bay. I then applied a full layer of my holy grail foundation, L'Oreal Lumi Magique in C4 Rose Beige and went in with a second layer wherever I had any redness or blemishes. I then went in with my Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard, and dabbed some under my eyes as well as lightly over some blemishes and blended it all in with my Beauty Blender. Finally, I set my face with my Benefit Hello Flawless! Pressed Powder in Champagne.

Brows

For my brows, I wanted a more polished and defined look. I used my Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade in Dark Brown and took an angled brush (Liner brush) from Hair and Makeup Addiction which I love to use with the Dip Brow. I lined the top and bottom of my brows with the Dip Brow and used a spoolie brush to add any excess product throughout my brows. I then went in with my ELF Studio Eyebrow Kit in Dark (powder section) and using the same brush added a little extra definition to my brows using the powder.

Eyes

For my eyes, I wanted to do a very subtle smokey eye as I knew my lips were going to be very bright! I used my Too Faced Boudoir Eyeshadow Palette to achieve the smokey eye. After applying my Too Faced Shadow Insurance, I used an eyeshadow brush to pile on some product and placed 'Satin Sheets' all over my lid and in my inner corner. I then took a crease brush, and placed 'Garter Belt' in my crease blending it in from the outer corner to about 3/4 inwards. With the same brush, I then took the teeniest, tiniest bit of 'French Tickler' and blended it in to create a v on the outer corner of my eye. This is a very dark shade so you need to be careful not to apply too much! I then took a very fluffy crease blush and just blended out the dark shade with lots of window wiper motions, until I was satisfied with the level of intensity. I didn't want the smokey eye to be too intense, so I was happy with the end result.

Finally, I took a medium sized angled eyeshadow brush, and grabbed 'In the Buff". I placed it under my brow bone and in the inner corners of my eyes. I also went back and placed a little more "Satin Sheets" in my inner corners as well as on the centre of my lid to brighten up the eye after all that blending. Easy!!! If you don't have this palette you could easily just use similar shades you already own to achieve the same results :)

I then lined my eyes using my HG liner Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Liner in Blackest Black, and then coated my lashes with 3 decent coats of mascara using my new favourite Make Up Store Multi Lash Mascara (Separate Review Here). I honestly think it looks like I am wearing falsies in these pictures, but this mascara is just super lengthening!!! I also put 1 coat on the bottom lashes just for good measure.

Contour/Highlight/Blush

Although not overly noticeable, I did add a little contour with my Benefit Hoola Bronzer just along my cheekbones with an angled kabuki brush. I then added some highlight to my cheekbones and cupid's bow, with the AMAZING Stila All Over Shimmer Duo in Kitten. If you don't already own this, you need to! I can't stop raving about it. I also used the other side of the duo as my blush which gives off a gorgeous rose gold colour, perfect for this look as I wanted the lips to be the main attraction.

Lips

Although these lips are vibrant and bright, they were the last thing I did and also the easiest to do! I didn't have time to line, so I just added some balm to my lips to moisturise and then used my new Bite Beauty Pastille Matte Creme Lipstick in Violet. I was waiting for a night out to use this bright colour and it definitely delivered. It's a matte shade, but it provides enough moisture and shine to achieve a gorgeous lip look without being too drying. LOVE these lipsticks. Post coming soon with more colours :)

The last step was spraying all over with my Urban Decay All Nighter Spray and then we are done and ready for a good night!

Hope you liked this look beauties!!! What is your fav going out look?

  1. Wow you look so gorgeous! I am loving the finish of your foundation and the matte lipstick! I also really need to invest in a dipbrow pomade, powders just don't give the right look or last long enough on my brows. xxx

    1. Aw thank-you so much Angela! The Lumi Magique foundation gives off such a nice glowy finish! Have you tried it before? Yes, the Dip Brow is super long lasting and trust me, it may seem a little pricey at first, but you only need the tiniest bit on your brush! Thanks for your comment :)

    1. Hey Lindsey, thanks for your comment! I honestly think a bright lip and a smokey eye would look stunning on you. If you think it looks a little scary you could always try opting for a neutral eye + bright lip like this, or a more subtle pink lip + a smokey eye like this. Either way, I bet you would look amazing! Thank-you :)
