June Monthly Favourites: 2014

I've discovered quite a few favourites this month, including mostly new treasures! Here are my favourite beauty bits that I couldn't put down this month ...

1. Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water ($11.99 AUD)

I love this prouct so much! It's simple, affordable and does a great job at taking off mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow, lipstick and more! It's non-scented and gentle enough that it doesn't sting your eyes. I love it for taking off lipsticks that stain. I use it everyday, sometimes more than once a day. You can dap a little bit on a cotton tip and use that to fix up your eye makeup too. For such a huge bottle at 400ml, this stuff is a steal and I'd highly recommend it!

2. Stila One Step Correct ($58.00 AUD)

I ordered this product on BeautyBay about two months ago, and I have become totally addicted to using this. It is a tri-coloured swirl of primer/serum that hydrates the skin, and evens out skintone for flawless makeup application. The green is supposed to reduced redness, the lavender (looks more white) is supposed to counteract yellow undertones and the peach swirl helps to brighten and illuminate. I have a lot of redness on my face and this does slightly reduce it but if you expect to use this alone and have your redness eliminated I think you'll be disappointed. It is just a primer after all, you still need foundation/concealer afterwards!

If you are particularly oily, I'd still suggest using another primer over this that will prevent oil on your t-zone. This product is really more of a serum/moisturiser in my opinion, but it does provide a lovely glow on the face and has an amazing texture which is what I love most about it. The only major con I have about this product is that it's pricey, and it tends to run out quickly if you're using it everyday. I've been using mine for about 3 weeks straight now and you can see already quite a bit is gone! If you're in the market for a new primer I'd definitely recommend this one, it illuminates the skin and adds a boost of moisture, while providing a great base for foundation all in one step. Normal or dry skin folks you will love this stuff.

3. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation ($50.00 AUD)

During the winter months, I tend to lean towards more high-coverage foundations. This year, I picked up the cult favourite Estee Lauder Double Wear. I was not disappointed! I had heard a lot of negative reviews for this foundation being too heavy, cakey and emphasising dry patches. I have dryness on my chin at the moment from a few recent breakouts, and I have no problems at all with this foundation. Just make sure to moisturise & prime your skin before you apply and I guarantee you will have a flawless base! It glides on smoothly, with a perfect medium-full coverage formula. I was colour-matched in store, so my shade matches my skin perfectly. I am a little lighter during the winter months with shade 2N1 Desert Beige. I just can't recommend this foundation enough, my skin hasn't been the happiest lately but I keep getting comments on how nice my skin looks because of this amazing product! Love.

4. Models Prefer Retractable Eyebrow Pencil ($8.99 AUD)

I've been lazy with my brows this month, and find myself running too short on time to blend in powder to my brows or use my Anastasia Beverley Hills dip brow pomade. Instead I've been reaching for my old favourite Models Prefer Brow Pencil in Dark Brown. This is a no fuss brow solution that I use to do my brows in just a few minutes. It's a perfect shade for me, although the colour range is limited. I use the spoolie on the other side to groom my brows before lining them with this colour. This brow product is extremely affordable but I tend to go through it quickly.

5. Shanghai Suzy Lipstick in Miss Sophia ($12.95 AUD)

I have been loving Miss Sophia this month!!! What a gorgeous colour. It is a muted cool-toned matte lilac and I adore it. For a matte lipstick, the formula is very creamy while still providing an opaque colour. If you haven't already tried the range of lipsticks by Shanghai Suzy, you can't go wrong for the price point!

6. NYX Butter Gloss in Merengue ($9.95 AUD)

If you know me, you know I love the entire range of butter glosses from NYX. This month, I keep reaching for the colour Merengue, which is a cool-toned light pink. These glosses provide a dash of colour and lots of shine. They are a little sticky, but much butter than a lot of other glosses I've tried. I love pairing this one with my Shanghai Suzy lipstick in Miss Sophia that I mentioned above, it's a match made in heaven!

7. Physicians Formula Talc-Free Airbrushing Pressed Powder ($29.95 AUD)

I think Physician's Formula is a really underrated brand that doesn't get talked about enough. I was in the market for a new powder, and found this one which is mineral and talc-free, which is beneficial for the skin. It's very silky and provides light coverage to be used over foundation or on it's own. I like to use mine over foundation and have the 'translucent' shade. It's not cakey at all and sits really nicely on the skin to provide a matte finish. No complaints here!

8. Origins Super Spot Remover Blemish Treatment Gel ($19.00 AUD)

As I mentioned, my skin has been hating me this month with lots of hormonal breakouts around my chin. This product has been my saviour! I picked it up a few months ago from Mecca Maxima and was a little disappointed at first, when I realised I had paid $19 for such a teeny tiny bottle. After using this product almost every night last month, I can say that the small bottle goes a long way and I am confident now it will last a long time.

This is a spot treatment that is designed to go on to a cotton tip, and you apply it directly on to your blemishes only. It may sting a little if it is a blemish that has been picked at, which you shouldn't do but of course we all are guilty of it every now and then! Oops. The formula contains 1.5% salicylic acid which is a chemical exfoliant that helps to speed up the healing process for those pesky pimples and reduces the redness of your blemish. This product also contains caffeine and red algae to calm the skin, and reduce irritation. I have really appreciated having this product in my stash this month, and would highly recommend it especially if your skin is misbehaving. It's amazing to travel with because it's so small compared to other spot treatments I own. Thanks Origins!

That's all for my monthly favourites. What did you love during the month of June?

  1. Ugh, I wish Garnier would bring that cleansing water to the US! There are no good, affordable cleansing waters out here! Anyway, great picks! I really like the NYX butter glosses and the PF powder too! I really need to pick up some more of those glosses one day!

    1. It sucks that it's not available yet in the US. Hopefully Garnier releases it to you soon. It's so affordable compared to other brands like Bioderma. The NYX butter glosses are awesome! They are usually really cheap on cherry culture if you don't mind ordering online :) xx Thanks for your comment!

  2. Where is the Physician's formula from? I'll be in Australia next month and am on the hunt for a new powder - my Rimmel Stay Matte lid always comes off in my handbag.

One of my June favourites was the Revlon Matte Balms - http://lenatalksbeauty.com/2014/06/12/product-review-revlon-matte-balms/

    1. Hey Lena, thanks for your comment! I got the Physician's Formula from a store here called Priceline. If you click on the 7. Physician's Formula name on my blog it should take you to the direct link. I love the Rimmel Stay Matte too but the packaging is the worst! I wish it didn't come off like that! I also love the Revlon Matte Balms! I'm obsessed with the shade Showy. Love! xx
