July Monthly Favourites: 2014

Sometimes I can't believe how quickly a month flies by! August is already here (and I'm a few days behind) so it's definitely time to tell you about my favourite products throughout July! Keep reading to see what they were!

1. Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade in Dark Brown ($29.30)

Well, they weren't kidding around when they said this stuff is amazing. It's 100% worth the hype if you like well-defined eyebrows that last all day and sit perfectly in place like good little brows should! The consistency of the dip brow is a very soft gel/mousse hybrid that can be easily picked up with a small angled brush and worked into the brows. You only need a very tiny amount of product to achieve a dramatic result and the product can be easily built up as you desire. I like to line the upper and lower lines of my brows, define my arch, and then use a spoolie to fill in the rest of my brows with the extra product. Love at first sight. I use this every single day now and have been for the last 5-6 weeks and the jar barely has a dent in it. Worth every penny my fellow brow lovers!

2. Too Faced Boudoir Eyes Palette ($39.18)

As someone who whole-heartedly loves warm toned eyeshadows like browns, coppers and burgundies, myself & the boudoir eyes palette were an unlikely pair. However. I bought this palette because I was drawn to the lovely day-time colours I could see myself wearing everyday from the first column down. The other colours, which all lean very cool also intrigued me. I thought this palette would be a good addition to my collection because I don't own many palettes that lean cool. I was pleasantly surprised by each and every shade in this palette. Although it looks very "nightime" it is actually an awesome palette for the day-time as well, and it's so easy to do a subtle smokey eye with this lovely friend. Also, the packaging is adorable and it's an excellent travel companion because it's so portable and lightweight. Thanks Too Faced, you never seem to disappoint!

3. Rimmel Stay Matte Primer ($13.95)

I picked up this primer because I am a fan of the Rimmel Stay Matte foundation which has generally received mixed reviews in the beauty community, however I love it for a full coverage mousse foundation. The primer however I have totally been loving this month. If the Face of Australia primer and Benefit Porefessional had a child, Rimmel Stay Matte would be the creation. It has the silicone base of Porefessional, but I find it more creamy and moisturizing like the Face of Australia primer. I have combination skin, and I find this delivers the right amount of silicone to keep oil & shininess away and enough moisture for my foundation to glide on without any dryness (I use a separate moisturiser anyway - but I prefer a primer which isn't drying). Thanks Rimmel! I haven't heard much hype about this product at all so I was happy to include it in my "pleasantly surprised" category.

4. Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation ($21.95)

Another Drugstore win this month is Maybelline's SuperStay Better Skin Foundation - I actually picked my bottle about six weeks ago from Coles on special for $13.95. As you know, Coles do not have product samples, so when it came to my shade, I honestly just had to guess. I think I did a pretty good job but I may explore the full shade range when this bottle runs out. I really LOVE this foundation. It blends into the skin really effortlessly and provides a perfect medium coverage that is definitely buildable to full-coverage. It has a liquid to powder finish and I don't find it cakey at all! I have been changing up my skincare routine more lately so I can't really make a comment on it's claims to improve the appearance of the skin, but it certainly hasn't broken me out and I love the way it feels as an everyday foundation!

5. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard ($35.00)

This concealer gets talked about a lot and I think it's probably because it is a champion among concealers! I don't tend to go for higher-end concealers, pretty much my entire collection is drugstore but something deep within my beauty blogger heart made me purchase this and I'm very happy I did. This concealer gives a beautifully creamy texture that is buildable to full coverage. I got a shade that matches my skin so it can be used on blemishes as well as under my eyes. I find that it blends out easily so that it doesn't appear like you've applied anything heavy or cakey. It blurs imperfections while still allowing you to look natural. I feel like a little bit of product goes a long way as well, which is good because of the price tag.

6. Make Up Store Multi-Lash Mascara* ($38.00)

I'm really sorry if you're sick of me raving about this mascara. If you're a first-time reader to Bows & Pleats, I've already done a full review of this mascara here, and completed a look using this mascara here. All you really need to know is that it creates length for days, and I'm often asked if I'm wearing falsies when I apply just 2 coats of this baby. I don't usually buy higher end mascaras, but this product was sent to me and now I can't be without it! #beautybloggerproblems

7. Makeup Geek Blush in Secret Admirer ($9.99)

I've already declared my love for Makeup Geek here, but these blushes have only recently been released by the brand and they have been a welcomed addition to the Bows & Pleats family. I recently purchased 4 shades, and Secret Admirer has been the one I have been reaching for the most. It's a true lilac-toned light pink that can be built up for a more dramatic look or sheered out for a very soft addition of colour to the cheeks. Love how soft and blendable these blushes are & they are super affordable as well.

  1. I don't have a favourites post for the month but this month I've been enjoying using all of my loose pigments, from Darling Girl, Shiro Cosmetics, Silk Naturals and also maybelline.

    1. Oooh! I've never tried any of those brands before Lena! You should do a post about using loose pigments! I love the effect I get with loose pigments but I always forget to use them!

  2. Oh that makeup geek blush is so pretty, I see a make-up geek purchase in my future. I also am really liking the Rimmel Primer, though it's getting hard to get the stuff out of the bottle now which is a bit of a pain.

    1. You will love the Makeup Geek blushes. They are so affordable and pigmented. I honestly can't get over them. I paid a few extra bucks to buy mine in the compact so they are easy to travel with when you just want to grab one, but they are $9.99 for just the magnetic pan :) I still have quite a bit of my primer left so I will have to remember when it gets low it's hard to squeeze out like toothpaste! Thanks for your comment lovely.

  8. Great products! You've featured a lot that I want to try haha! The brow pomade sounds so amazing, I definitely want to give it a go, given that it's so unique! The new Maybelline foundation sounds really good, though I'm skeptical about the skincare claims!
