Review + Demo: Australis Stayput Foundation

I have had a few requests to review this foundation from Australis, called the Stayput Foundation. It claims to last for 16 hours on the face, as well as being smudge-free and moisturising. If you’re wondering if I agree with these claims, and whether or not this drugstore foundation is worth trying out, then keep reading!

Australis is an Australian drugstore brand that deliver affordable yet good quality products for the most part. I particularly like their fresh & flawless powder, mineral colour inject lipsticks and makeup setting spray. They are also well known for their velourlips, however I find these a little too drying on my lips.

What They Say

The Australis 16hr Stayput Foundation was one I picked up randomly, always on my search for a foundation which will “do it all”. I was mainly thinking it would be good for daytime use as it contains SPF 15 & the long-lasting, 16 hour claim appealed to me so I wouldn’t have to touch up my foundation while at work. Australis promises “A long-lasting, smudge-free foundation that contains moisturising multivitamins, antioxidants and broad spectrum SPF 15. A medium-full coverage for a radiant matte finish and suitable for all skin types”, a big promise coming from a foundation that only costs $14.95 AUD at Priceline.

Packaging

The Stayput foundation is housed in a glass bottle, which was impressive for its small price tag. It also has a dispenser which is great, so you can pump out the set amount of product that you require. For reference, I have combination skin, some oil in my t-zone, and other areas are normal or dry. I used the shade "natural beige" which was a good neutral beige for my skin tone. I found that the colour selection for this foundation wasn't the best, only offering 5 shades all together (from nude to golden tan) so there is a decent chance you may not find a shade that will match you perfectly or you may have to mix something with it.

Before application, just wearing primer and eyebrows filled in

Preparation

I've given the foundation several runs now, which I think is necessary because your moisturiser and primer always greatly effect the way your foundation looks in my opinion. I use this foundation with the Bourjois Happy Light Primer (full review here) or Too Faced Hangover Primer (featured in my November faves here). I generally apply this foundation with a flat top kabuki brush such as the F80 from Sigma.

After 1 layer of Australis Stayput Foundation & a second layer over any red areas

Formula & Application

It is a creamy formula, that glides on easily but does take some effort to blend out into the skin. I find if you use a good brush to blend it out than you shouldn't have any issues. The coverage is definitely a true medium coverage, so it masks most redness and covers up blemishes, but depending on the level of redness and darkness of spots, you may need a concealer over the top. Although this formula is a little thick, it blends out to feel natural and lightweight on the skin. Due to the consistency, this isn't a foundation that I would apply more than two thin layers with otherwise it could run the risk of looking cakey, however I found it always looked natural on me.

Before & After Application of Australis Stayput Foundation

Longevity

Unfortunately, I found that by around lunchtime, this foundation started to become shiny in my t-zone, and was certainly not smudge-proof (transferred onto my work phone and mobile, ew) however, a quick application of powder and it was as good as new. I would say it provides about 6 hours of wear before I have to touch it up. It didn't settle into any of my fine lines, or become patchy around my face, however I feel like this could be a possibility if you have dry skin and don't moisturise well before applying this product.

Final Look: Australis Stayput Foundation, Benefit Hello Flawless Powder, Hourglass Incandescent Light Highlighter, Napoleon Cheek Palette for Blush , Jordana Best Lash  Extreme Mascara & Sportsgirl Beauty Queen on the lips.

The Verdict

Although this foundation wasn't as long-lasting as I was hoping, I do love the finish and I think it makes my skin look even and flawless. I generally apply this and don't bother with concealer, but just pop some powder over the top to set it. Overall, I think this is a great budget foundation option for everyday wear, and would be best suited to normal skin types. It isn't my absolute favourite, but if you can manage to find a good match for your skin tone, this product is definitely worth trying. It may just work for you!

  1. Awesome, in depth review Sarah! The foundation looks gorgeous on your skin! I don't think I'll be picking this one up though since I have quite an oily t-zone, and really can't be bothered with touch ups haha!

  3. I've actually never even heard of this foundation but I have to admit that I don't often look at Australis for foundations. This doesn't look amazing but definitely looks like it gives decent coverage at least! I wasn't a fan of the Velourlips either, too dry for me!

  4. Whoa it looks so good on you! Really natural and flawless :) Probs will give it a miss though, as I prefer a longer wearing foundation! And one of Australis' previous foundations broke me out, so I'm a bit wary of them now :(

  5. This foundie looks lovely on you! Looks like a fab colour match as well... I've been really getting into Australis products lately, I love their Full On Foundation, but I do get a bit of an oily T-zone during the day so this one might not work quite as well on me - definitely looks worth a try though :) x

  7. Oh no! Which one broke you out Sheri? This is the first one I have tried by them but I'm enjoying it. I do wish it was longer wearing though! What foundations are you loving at the moment?

  8. Australis is a great brand, even though a lot of people wouldn't think of them for base products! It's definitely not my HG or anything but it gives great coverage. Thanks for your comment Dani :)

  10. Thanks so much Tasha! Yes, if you have an oily t zone, this one isn't the best! It's annoying to have to touch up throughout the day. Do you find any foundations work really well with your oily t zone?

  12. The one that broke me out was their Fresh and Flawless I believe. But then again, it is an older foundation and their formulation has probably improved! I loveee Max Factor's Facefinity :) x
