I'm so happy you all seemed to enjoy My 2015 Beauty Favourites, and many of you requested I do a similar roundup of my top skincare products throughout the past year. I switch up my skincare far less than my makeup, so this post was definitely smaller and easier to narrow down. Nevertheless, there are quite a few products to get through so I hope you enjoy reading about them!
Last year, one of my most popular blog posts was my Top 10 Beauty Products of 2014. There have been so many new beauty products fly across my makeup desk this year, there was no way I could narrow it down to just 10 products but I wanted to come up with a special post to highlight my absolute beauty favourites for the year. I also decided to include both high-end and drugstore favourites where possible so this post can apply to a larger range of readers. So sit down, grab your coffee or tea, and get ready for a massive beauty roundup post!
As part of my Sephora US & Canada Haul (read the full post here), I picked up the Bite Beauty Best Bite Rewind Holiday Set which is just so cute and festive. I gifted it to myself from myself, as I thought this set was great value to be able to try a variety of shades from their matte lip crème collection. Today I thought I'd show you the shades included and what I think of the set which is available at Sephora.
If you're a Bite Beauty fan you might be interested to read about my Bite Beauty Lipstick Collection & Swatches Post here.
With Summer in full swing here in Australia, it's a good chance to trade in your contour for a more shimmery all over bronzer, and incorporate more warm tones into your makeup routine. I personally love a natural, bronzey look so I'm always excited to play with peachy blushes and shimmery bronzers!
This particular makeup look is something I threw together last weekend when I was heading out with friends. I liked the way it turned out so I thought I'd share it with you all.
To see what I packed on my most recent trip, keep on reading!
Everyone loves a good haul post, or at least I know that I love them! When overseas, it's almost impossible to walk past the big shiny Sephora store without going in ... for just a browse ... am I right? Yeah, well that didn't work out too well for me now did it! Well, I'm happy but my bank account is not! This haul was between both the Canada and USA stores, and was over a few different trips! Hope you enjoy. Please let me know if yo would like an in depth review or swatches of any of these products!
This is the second post in my Sarah Goes Shopping Series! Check out some more haul posts HERE.
As promised this month I'm doing a combined favourites post for October & November since I missed last month while overseas. I used a lot of my HG's and favourite products that have already been featured on the blog throughout my trip. You'll see a lot of what I used in my What's in My Travel Makeup Bag Take Two post which will be coming to you very soon.
Today's post has a lot of newbie favourites that I've been loving lately.
Don't worry though, I'm back! I did 100% enjoy my time away and I'm feeling so refreshed. I've already been busy preparing content for you all and will be doing a combined October & November favourites this month since I missed last month. I also have a What's in My Travel Bag Updated post coming to you soon and some major hauls from my travels. I'd love to know what else you'd like to see. I know a lot of bloggers post gift guides and other christmas-related content leading up to the holidays, so let me know if there is anything along these lines you'd like to see.
Now, many of you probably clicked on this post so you could see wedding pictures! I was lucky enough to have an amazing photographer Lee Burgess from Life and Love Photography and I couldn't recommend her more. She got our photos back to us in just over a month and we have so many gorgeous shots to choose from! I am having trouble deciding which ones to frame and make into canvases, I love them all. The wedding itself went without a hitch, and I can easily say it was the best day of my life. Married life is treating me well and my new name is Mrs. Sarah Clark!

Who wants to take out the trash with me over the past few months? You can read my last Empties post here, and I've definitely let the products pile up since then! If you're up for some mini-reviews of all the products I've finished up over the last few months, keep reading!
As a new feature here at Bows & Pleats, I wanted to start a Spend or Splurge series where I review similar products with a high end and low end option to see which one performs better. I'm all for saving a few bucks with my makeup if a product performs just as well as it's luxury counterpart, but I'm also happy to spend the money on something if it works really well and is high-quality. I hope you enjoy this series, and today I'm talking eyebrow kits! I'm comparing the Benefit Brow Zings with the Rimmel Brow This Way Eyebrow Sculpting Kit*. Which do you think will do better? Keep reading to find out!
Hi my beautiful readers!!! Just a quick note to say I will be trying my very, very best to have a new post up for you every Monday over the rest of October and November! It's 1 week until the wedding now and then we embark on a 5 week honeymoon throughout USA/Canada and visiting my family in Newfoundland. I hope you understand regarding my reduced schedule during this busy period, I just want to soak up every moment and enjoy time with my family!
Lots of love,
September has been a very busy month for me with my upcoming wedding growing closer and closer and now the countdown is now just 2 weeks away! *insert squeal here* I have really tried to keep it simple with my makeup this month, with a little bit of trialling new bits here and there that I may want to pack with me for my honeymoon. So, if you're interested in my favourite beauty items over the past month, please keep reading on!
Whether you want to believe it or not, setting sprays are definitely a necessary step in any lady (or man's) makeup routine. For me, they really do assist with increasing the longevity of your makeup and also reduce the chances of makeup transfer when you're using your phone or touching your face. For those that may not be too familiar with setting sprays, I've broken down some of my favourite ones and given you lots of options and price tags to choose from.
I don't usually switch up my hair products as much as my makeup products, but this new range from Dove has reminded me that more affordable brands do have a lot to offer in the haircare department! Although we often don't give supermarket brands much credit, they're constantly working on their formulas and prices to produce high quality products that don't cost an arm and a leg. I run out of shampoos and conditioners fairly quickly with my long hair so I can't always afford to buy from a salon. Today I'm reviewing the Dove Hair Therapy Nutritive Solutions, Daily Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner* which were kindly sent to me. I was not paid for this review and all opinions are 100% honest and my own, as always!
Skinstitut has been quickly growing into my favourite skincare brand. Their products have had a dramatic improvement on my skin over the past year so I thought it was about time I did a post about their products for you!
I’m a huge candle lover but have not yet done any reviews on my blog! I’m hoping over the next few months to branch out a little more to cover reviews and topics outside of beauty to keep things interesting so I was happy to review a candle and soy melts from the lovely Sonya at Hyams Beach Candles. If you love discovering new candle brands and boutiques, keep reading!
Personal Update: These August monthly favourites have really made me excited! I only have one more monthly favourites post to prepare for you all before my WEDDING which is fast approaching!!! I am working hard to prepare enough content for at least one post a week, and hopefully more if I can. I will be offline from mid October to the end of November as I'll be away on my honeymoon (USA/Canada) and enjoying some time with my family. I'll post another reminder about this closer to that time!
For favourites this month, I really just kept it simple and stuck to items that I have basically been using each and every day. Keep reading for full details on the products shown above!
ZOEVA has quickly become the new "go-to" brand for makeup brushes amongst many beauty gurus. They are well known for their high quality, super soft and luxurious brushes as well as their colour cosmetic products such as eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks. After hearing a lot of hype about the ZOEVA brand, I decided to bite the bullet, and purchase a few products to trial the brand and decide for myself. If you're interested to hear what I purchased and my first impressions, keep reading!
Being a beauty blogger, and being a part of lots of different beauty groups on Facebook and through regular conversations on Instagram. I sometimes forget that the average joe doesn't always know exactly what I'm talking about! Although I try to keep my blog in layman's terms, I do realize that there are a lot of terms that get thrown around in the beauty world that aren't that well-known to everyone. A loyal reader of mine asked if I would do a post about makeup lingo, so if you're interested to know more, keep reading!
It's Friday!!! It's a dreary, rainy day here in Queensland so I thought I would add a little sparkle to your days! I have really been enjoying these Australis Cosmetics Metallix Eyeshadows* lately so I thought I would include them today for a Frugal Fridays feature, where I talk about affordable beauty products that don't sacrifice quality for a really great price!
If you'd like to read about some other Frugal Fridays products click here for the full list of posts.
If I had to choose a makeup product I am more obsessed with than all the others, lipstick would come close, but foundation wins every time. I just can't seem to steer clear of new releases and I'm always after the best base products possible to keep my skin looking flawless. In my opinion, there is no blush, lipstick or bronzer that is going to make you look as good as an amazing foundation. If you have a flawless base, everything else just seems to fall into place!
Although this new release from Too Faced called the Born This Way Foundation is coming to Mecca Maxima in Australia soon (August 25th), I just couldn't wait to get my paws on it and ordered it (along with some other goodies) from Sephora using Shop and Box. If you're interested to know more about ordering things from America, just let me know and I can write a post about it!
Back to the foundation ... If you're keen to know more about this product and see how this baby wears over a full night out, keep reading!!!
Raise your hand if you like Jaclyn Hill, Becca Cosmetics, Limited Edition items and/or sparkly things!!! Now, if you raised your hand to any of these things, than you will love today's post all about the new limited edition highlighter from Becca Cosmetics which is a collaboration with famous beauty YouTuber Jaclyn Hill. This baby pretty much broke the internet on it's release, and has been a very sought after, hyped up product.
I thought I'd share my thoughts with you today so you can make your own choice about this pretty, shiny highlighter sent from the makeup gods!
I am a huge fan of skincare, and a self-confessed lover of more natural products, so when I was sent some goodies from Delicious Skin to try, I was delighted to discover this lovely boutique brand from
New South Whales, Australia. You have probably seen some of these products pop up in Monthly Favourites Posts here on the blog as well as some Instagram posts, so I decided to do a full review for you all! Keep reading if you'd like to hear the lowdown about this Australian skincare range!
For those of you that live in Australia, you would already know Mecca Maxima is the place to go for many exclusive brands that can only be found at Mecca within Australia (some exclusions now that Sephora is infiltrating into Sydney and Melbourne). You can order these brands online, but Mecca actually allows you to swatch things in store which many Australians weren't able to do before it opened. I love Mecca Maxima, and I have to say I have never had a bad experience there. Whenever a product is out of stock, they have sourced it for me from other stores and sent it to me express at no extra cost. They also have always been kind in giving me samples of new products to try and have an excellent returns policy (you can return used makeup items if they didn't work for you). I find the staff are very friendly and helpful and leave you to look around as much as you want which I love!
Mecca Maxima have a Beauty Loop Program, with three reward levels depending on how much you spend per year:
Level 1 - $399-$599
Level 2 - $600-$1199
Level 3 - $1200+
You get a box each quarter, that contains "a lovingly edited sample box of products for you to experience and enjoy" according to Mecca! They usually include a few deluxe sample sizes and then some smaller sachets to try. Obviously the higher your level, the more generous the boxes you receive. You can order your beauty loop box by purchasing something online and it will prompt you to add it to your cart, or you can pick them up in store free of charge. You will get an e-mail notification when they are available.
This quarter I was classified as a Level 2 (not far off of Level 3) Oops. I thought I would go through the contents with you now that I have been trying out these products over the past few weeks and can share my thoughts on each product and the box itself!
Dusty Girls is a makeup brand created (or as they say, farmed) by the more well known brand MooGoo, an Australian based company who specialise in skincare, haircare and bath/body products to soothe sensitive and problem skin types and which don't contain any petroleum based ingredients. MooGoo have some great skincare products including their Full Cream Moisturiser which was featured in my recent July Favourites. I was definitely excited to hear that they have created a new range of products under the sub brand Dusty Girls which is dedicated to natural, high quality mineral makeup products that make you look like you've spent a day outside in the sun, creating that healthy, glowy look. I was intrigued to find out more, and gratefully accepted these products to trial for you all and put to the Bows & Pleats test!
I thought I'd bring you all a new series on the blog all about my experiences with trying out samples. As a beauty junkie, I have often bought a new product based on other Beauty Bloggers and YouTubers recommendations. Sometimes they are spot on and I am so happy with my purchase, other times the product may have not lived up to my expectations or just didn't suit my skin type or colouring. I think that is why it is such a good practice to try out samples for makeup and skincare products when you can. All good cosmetic counters will kindly give you a sample sachet or pot to try out different products before you have to commit to any purchases especially Mecca Maxima, Myer and David Jones. I thought I could share some of my experiences of trying out samples with you and if I think the product is worth purchasing or not! First up is the very hyped up Mac Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation. If you're wondering if this bad boy lives up to it's claims than keep reading!
Another month, another set of beauty and other favourites! This month I have been loving a range of new beauty and skincare products that I'm excited to share with you! Most of my fave products this month are quite affordable and available locally which is also a bonus for any of you who are on a budget! Let's get into it!
I was recently invited out to dinner and drinks with some of my Brisbane Beauty Babes (Celia, Brittany, Kate, Courtney and some new gals Amy and Cassie) and I thought I'd show you the makeup I did for a night out with the girls. We went to Jade Buddha which is a restaurant and bar along the Brisbane River if you are looking for a new place to visit in the Brisbane area I really love the view and the cocktails as well as yummy menu! I decided to go for a warm smokey eye and nude lip! If you're wondering how I got this look and what products were used, keep reading!
If you're a makeup lover, you're probably already familar with the blush offerings from the infamous MAC Cosmetics. Here in Australia, they aren't cheap to purchase at a steep $41 AUD each, so if you're going to splurge, you should choose your shade carefully, and try to pick something that is wearable for many different makeup looks and something that suits your skintone.
Today I'm going through my small MAC blush collection and sharing my favourite shades and swatches with you! Keep reading if you love blush! Also, check out my post on 5 Blush Shades You Need In Your Makeup Bag which include drugstore and high-end blush products.
As many of you probably already know, I'm a huge fan of the New Zealand skincare brand Antipodes, who do an amazing job at combining science with nature, and offer a wide range of certified organic skincare products, that contain highly effective ingredients to nourish and treat many different skin types. Antipodes try to derive all of their ingredients from nature, they are cruelty-free and their packaging is all 100% recyclable. It's great to find a brand which such a high standard of ethics as well as great quality products that really work. I am a huge lover of their Apostle Skin-Brightening & Tone-Correcting Serum as well as their Aura Manuka Honey Mask for fighting breakouts and evening out my skintone (you can read more about those here).
Antipodes were kind enough to send me some products to try from their new Makeup Collection. Wait ... say what? This amazing skincare brand is now doing makeup products?!?! I was super excited to hear about this!!! Of course I had to review these products for you all so I can let you know my thoughts.
I haven't done a makeup tutorial for your beauties in a while so I thought I'd share this simple look with you, which is one of my favourites for a night out or a slightly fancier makeup look for work or everyday out and about. This look includes a full coverage base with a subtle brown smokey eye including winged liner and a pink lip. I think this is a really feminine but sophisticated look and I was happy with how this came out so I decided to share it with you all today.
Well I thought today that I'd talk to you all about something a little different from my usual beauty posts! I'm currently planning for my upcoming wedding this October, and I thought I'd share my experiences with you as well as some tips and tricks for any of you brides to be, or anyone who may be interested to know more about the process and the most valuable lessons I have learned so far.
I like trying new products here and there, there isn't anything wrong with changing out a cleanser or trying a new face mask, but I have tried to develop a solid night routine that I can really commit to and stick with. In today's post I'm talking you through some key products I have been using regularly over the past few months and can highly recommend to treat combination and/or acne-prone skin. These products have helped to keep my skin blemish-free and reduce a lot of my pigmentation and acne-scarring. If you're keen to hear what products I use at night, keep on reading!
It's that time of the month again, to share the products I've been reaching for the most! I realize know that all of my picks this month are makeup choices, so I will be sure to include my most recent skincare, haircare or lifestyle loves in my next monthly favourites since I don't want them to be forgotten! I had a pretty good mix between new favourites and rediscovering things I already had in my beauty collection this month. Keep reading to hear some more in depth reviews!
When the weather gets colder, we sometimes forget to adjust our skincare routines accordingly. Many people believe that just simply slapping on some extra moisturiser is enough to combat the colder months, but this is definitely not the case! There are lots of ways you can switch up your skincare routine to keep your skin feeling happy and hydrated! This post is all about my favourite products to keep my skin feeling soft and supple and to fight off those pesky dry patches.
Blushes are one of the most prettiest and appealing makeup products to own! There isn't anything more feminine and appealing than a bright pink blush swept over the apples of the cheeks. With that being said, I thought it was time that I talk about the blushes that I use the most in my collection and some of the more neutral and often overlooked shades that can often transform your look. If you'd like to know what 5 blushes I'd take with me to a desert island, keep reading!
I had the pleasure of meeting Molly, the founder of Dunkle Authentic herself, and the master behind all of these beautiful, hand-crafted products. I was instantly impressed by the gorgeous, luxurious packaging and bright colours, and I appreciated the careful packaging of each item.
I love a good beauty bargain as much as the next person, and it's great to discover affordable drugstore products that everybody can afford. However, I do believe that sometimes there are products worth saving up for, and splurging on! Not all high-end or luxury items are worth their pricetag, but sometimes you do get what you pay for and I have a collection of some high end products that I wanted to share with you today because I really do feel that they are worth the money! If you're wondering what items you might want to add to your "splurge wishlist", keep reading!
Today I'm talking about a natural skincare brand that is right in my backyard here in Queensland. I love finding and promoting Australian brands and think it's always nice to support good quality, local products when possible! A Bit Hippy were kind enough to send me some of their products to review for my lovely readers, however all opinions stated here are honest and my own.
A Bit Hippy are based in Burleigh Heads, Queensland, Australia and pride themselves in using all natural ingredients. They also believe in minimising the environmental impact on their product packaging and the way they ship their orders. If you'd like to hear more about this brand and my thoughts, keep reading!
Being a beauty lover, I can often get caught up in finding “the best of the best” in every beauty product, and can sometimes forget that the most expensive products don’t always translate into the best quality products. I can be guilty of having this mentality every now and then, expecting higher-end items to always beat drugstore dupes. For all these reasons, I have created this Frugal Friday series so I can keep updating you all on my favourite drugstore and affordable makeup products that I think are great quality without costing you too much! I haven’t done one of these posts in a while, but if you’d like to read through some previous Frugal Friday posts, you can click here.
Today I’m taking you through one of my favourite drugstore brands, and I couldn’t narrow it down to just one favourite product, so I’m doing a brand spotlight on Essence Cosmetics! They are well known for having some of the most affordable makeup products at Priceline, and their products are distributed all around the world. They are also Europe’s #1 cosmetic brand*. The Essence philosophy is access to great products that inspire you to express who you are with style, confidence and fun. As a bonus, they have extremely affordable prices, with almost all products available coming in under $10 AUD. If you’re interested to have a look through some of my favourite items from the brand, keep reading on!

Another month has flown by and it's time to review monthly favourites! This was an awesome month for me since it was the month I started my blog last year and it's also my birthday month!!! I hope you're all doing well as the weather starts to get colder here in Australia, I've been embracing darker lips and more hydrating base products and skincare. I've come up with some new discoveries to share with you all this month, and some of them have been amazing finds so if you're interested to know what I've been loving, please keep reading!
Happy Tuesday to all my gorgeous followers! Today I am doing a highly requested blog post all about my first ever experience with the super hyped brand ColourPop who you may have recently heard many Beauty Bloggers and Youtubers raving about lately. They seem to me most well known for their Lippie Stix and Shadows. So of course, I made sure to order lots of those to review for you!
So now that I know you all love lipsticks as much as me, I thought today I'd share my thoughts on the Autumn/Winter 2015 Winter Wardrobe which includes 8 new shades and a new formula as well! I've tried on all 8 shades for you lovelies, so if you're keen to see what they look like on, you've come to the right place! Grab your morning tea or coffee and let's get into it!
NARS have recently released their Dual Intensity Blushes which I have been drooling over for the past few weeks! They resemble their Dual Intensity Eyeshadows in both formula and packaging so if you're a fan of those, you may be interested in these blushes! I finally bit the bullet last week and purchased one of the duos in the shade that really appealed to me the most - Fervor. This duo contains a shimmering soft pink paired with a coppery rose gold. I was actually mesmerized (insert heart-faced emoji) by the rose gold coppery shade as I thought it would be a perfect addition to my beauty regime for the colder months, and would also look amazing on the eyes as well!
Today I thought I'd do a bit of a different post for you about a recent makeup look that I achieved on myself for my engagement photoshoot. As some of you may know, I am getting married in October of this year ... the countdown is on! 6 months to go!!! So in line with that, the photographer we hired to capture our special day was kind enough to offer us a complimentary engagement photoshoot, where we got together for an hour in a beautiful scenic location on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland and had a practice shoot. The whole idea is to get used to working together, posing, trying different angles so we can feel more comfortable for the big day.
I thought it would be worthwhile to show you all what products I used for the photoshoot and how the photos actually turned out! I hope it might be beneficial for anyone who is planning a special night or occasion coming up where you want to take nice photos and may be wondering what makeup to wear and what you should do!
WARNING: Picture Heavy Post & Mooshy Photos <3
I'm a huge fan of an understated lipstick and think that it is a great way to rock a more sophisticated look. Natural lip shades are ideal for a minimal makeup look or to pair with a fierce smokey eye. MAC Cosmetics make some of the best lipsticks I've ever used, and with such a diverse shade range as well as various finishes, I thought I'd share my top five "My Lips But Better" (MLBB) shades of lipstick from this brand with you. If you're interested in pretty lipstick pictures and swatches, this one will be for you (WARNING: picture heavy!)
As the year seems to be flying past, there's a few new and old products I've been turning to over the past month. I'm certainly looking forward to what this next month has to bring! I'm excited to celebrate a peaceful Mother's day with my fiancé's mom and family. I hope I can do something special for my own mom as well (although we will be apart from each other). It's also my birthday month, and I'm looking forward to wearing boots and sweaters as the weather gets cooler. It's officially less than six months until my wedding so let me know if you'd like to see any posts relating to that and what you'd like to know!
Now on to my favourite beauty finds & rediscoveries over the month of April ...
