My Top 10 Beauty Products of 2014!

Just incase you aren't sick of seeing these posts, I definitely wanted to share with you my most loved beauty products of last year. You will notice that some of these products are ones you may have seen or heard of before since some of these have been very hyped within the beauty community, but fortunately for you I can confirm that they are worth the hype!!!

I've used most of these products consistently throughout 2014 and they haven't failed me. They have officially received Holy Grail status at Bows & Pleats HQ so I thought I'd share them with you & maybe you'll discover something new to try or be reminded of something you already own!

1. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation ($50)

This was is definitely a hit or miss with a lot of people. It is a full-coverage, matte formula that is designed for all day wear without having to retouch at all. I LOVE this foundation, and I think for anyone that has issues with redness, acne scarring or achieving an even complexion, this does an amazing job at making skin look absolutely flawless.

Due to the high coverage, matte finish, this foundation has a bit of a thicker consistency but is still very blendable. It is REALLY important that you wear a primer with this product, and if you have dry skin I would suggest moisturising well before application or else it will cling to dry patches, if you moisturise properly you shouldn't have any issues.

This is my go-to, "Going-out Foundation", or "I look crap and want to look nice" foundation and it has never failed me! I use the shade desert beige.

2. Too Faced Hangover Primer ($44)

This was a later discovery in 2014, where this bad boy randomly made it's way into my cart on Mecca's website. I was so happy to find that I fell completely in love with it and my bottle is currently on it's last application! I would happily repurchase because this primer is amazing. I find it very refreshing, hydrating and smoothing. It feels similar to the Face of Australia Primer, however I find it sinks into the skin much more quickly and I find that the Too Faced Hangover primer is more velvety and smooth. This primer is silicone-free, so an good option for anyone who may react or breakout from silicone-based primers. I love this primer and sometimes just wear it alone because it makes my skin feel so good!

3. Hourglass Ambient Powder Wardrobe ($76

I won't go into much detail, because if you are an active member of the beauty world, you probably already know lots about this or maybe even own it yourself. This is a palette of 3 light-diffusing powders that make your complexion game go up about three levels! I use dim light to set my foundation or under my eyes, I use incandescent light to highlight and radiant light as a blush/bronzer to warm up my face. I have been using this palette consistently throughout 2014 and definitely think it is worth the investment. The powders are finely milled and feel amazing on the skin, they blend into the skin so naturally and flawlessly and have a blurring effect so that imperfections are greatly reduced and you feel like you have been photoshopped (in a good way). Enough said.

4. Nars Creamy Concealer ($35 )

This has been a very popular choice for a high-end concealer in 2014! It is a high coverage, creamy, blendable concealer that is great for undereye circles as well as blemishes. You only need a teeny amount of this product to get an amazing coverage. I use the shade custard and find it really works well with my light-medium skintone. I dab this on any blemishes after I apply my foundation and slightly pat in with a flat top brush, then set with powder and I always find it gives me a flawless face. Love this!

5. Napoleon Perdis Enhancer ($22)

The dark horse of 2014, I have actually not seen or heard anything about this product but discovered it randomly when I was browsing a Napoleon counter and just felt the need to buy this and try it out because I love highlighters. This is a crayon-type highlighter, similar to the consistency of the NYX jumbo pencils, however much more creamy and blendable. The Napoleon Perdis enhancer is a light pink iridescent shade that brightens and reflects light like a dream! Although this product is advertised as a cream highlighter for the face and lips, I love using this on my eyes and under my brow bone so much! On lazy days when I just can't be bothered doing anything with my eyes, I swipe this under my brow bone and in the inner corners of my eyes and boom!, I instantly look awake and put together. MIRACLE WORKER!

6. Lorac Pro Palette ($80)

Although I purchased my Lorac Mega Pro Palette at the end of 2014, this baby was much more used throughout the entire year and has truly become one of my makeup staples! I have already hit pan on both nude and espresso. I love using nude to highlight and espresso to fill in my brows or make an easy contour for my eyes. The shades 'garnet' and 'mauve' are by far my favourites in the crease, and I just find I am consistently gravitating back towards this palette because it's so easy to create any sort of look with this range of shades and finishes. In my opinion this palette trumps any of the Urban Decay Naked Palettes (blasphemy, I know!) but it's true, I use the Lorac Pro way more than any other palette and I'm not afraid to confess my love for it!!!

7. Nars Sheer Glow Foundation ($59)

Also pretty high on the "hyped up products of 2014" list, before you start groaning, believe me, this foundation is actually really good! The formula is not high coverage or even medium coverage (unless you build it up). If you were to compare my friend Estee Lauder Double Wear with this foundation they wouldn't even be relatives. They are honestly two very different foundations but they are great at different things.

Nars Sheer Glow is obviously quite sheer in consistency but still provides enough coverage to even out the skin and provide a very even and beautiful semi-satin finish. The "glow" in its name comes from the fact that the formula has light-reflecting properties that makes your skin look very dewy and glowy and gives you that "lit from within" look. At first I hated this foundation because I was expecting more coverage and I was applying it with my usual flat top kabuki brush. Once I played around with it more, I honestly fell in love with it. I apply mine with my fingertips; there is clay in the formula that needs to be warmed up with your fingers to get the perfect finish on your skin. Then you can blend in with a foundation brush. I also like to set with a powder so that I get more longevity for this foundation, and if I set in the morning with powder it does last all day on me without getting oily. I use the shade Fiji.

8. Benefit They're Real! Mascara ($38)

This is another product that I find has a love or hate effect. To me, this mascara is one of the blackest formulas I have ever used so it's amazing for a dramatic eye for more glamourous looks. It provides a a punch of volume with its spiky plastic comb, while still providing a substantial amount of length. I always get compliments about my lashes when I wear this. I don't find the formula clumpy whatsoever, but I have had issues with the brush slipping and getting mascara on my face and it can be difficult to remove. In general, the removal can be annoying because the formula is very long-wearing, however if you use an oil-based eye makeup remover you should be okay! I love this mascara, and I think it is worth the money. Although I tend to stick to more affordable drug-store brands, I haven't been able to find a drugstore mascara that I've loved as much as They're Real!

9. MAC Lipstick in 'Faux' ($36)

Wearing MAC 'faux' for a natural look

THIS LIPSTICK!!! Faux is a satin finish and it is just the most gorgeous, my lips but better shade that really suits a warm skintone! It's my go-to everyday lipstick and the most perfect nude. I would describe this shade as a muted beigey pink. It is the kind of shade that I love and wish I could buy from every brand that every existed because it is so pretty and flattering. There is not much more to say other than, if you don't have this lipstick, please have a look the next time you're at MAC. Best $36 you will ever spend! If that is out of your price range, you could try NYX Matte Lipstick in Whipped Caviar, however it is slightly darker and more mauve, and obviously does not have the beautiful satin finish.

10. Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade ($18 )

Finally, many girls have discovered the true power of ABH Dip Brow Pomade in 2014 and I have to say that I am in that boat as well. Thank you Anastasia!!! My brow game has improved ten fold, and I now can take control of my sparse and thin eyebrows by creating a beautiful colour and shape with this amazing product. The pomade is a soft, waxy formula that is very long-wearing and creamy. I have even gone swimming with this on and it hasn't budged at all. Unless you scrub this off, it is on for the whole day and night which is a huge bonus! It comes in a variety of different shades that run both warm and cool. I use the shade dark brown which in my opinion is actually a pretty neutral colour, but may not suit you depending on your undertones and actual hair colour. I use the shade dark brown and it suits my brunette hair. It is quite dark and suits my brunette hair. I apply this with an angled eyebrow brush.

Hope you enjoyed my favourite beauty products of 2014! Are any of these products on your favourites list? What were your most loved items of last year?

  10. Great picks Sarah! I love my NARS Sheer Glow & Radiant Creamy Concealer! I only just picked them up after xmas!!

  11. I really want to get that Lorac palette! It is right up my alley! Do you reckon the sephora in Sydney has it?. FYI that Nars sheer glow is awesome.

  12. I've never been to the Sephora in Sydney but LORAC you can also purchase from MYQTY here it's pricey but it's so worth the money! I'm glad you love NARS sheer glow too! It gives such a pretty glow to the complexion!

  13. Thanks so much Lisa! I've actually already completed a blog post about the Liebester Award but I appreciate the nomination! Thanks for your comment x

  14. They're Real is one that I always go back to over and over again! I'm glad you love the NARS concealer and foundation too! They work great together! The concealer is my best friend! Thanks so much for your comment :) xx

  15. The powder wardrobe is pretty amazing, but you can get dim light and radiant light as singles, so the only real advantage is getting incandescent light but it is a super gorgeous highlighter! You definitely need to try sheer glow! It definitely isn't full coverage but it evens out the skin nicely and provides some coverage and just really applies beautifully to the skin. I find it's best when you apply with your fingertips! It's actually pretty affordable now from Mecca!

  16. You totally need to get the NARS concealer it will change your life! It covers up blemishes and redness so well. The hangover primer is a personal love of mine. It doesn't get that much hype but I just find it so hydrating and smoothing on the skin! I love it. Thanks for your comment Nhi :) xx

  17. Thanks so much Melissa! I'm so happy you've jumped on the NARS bandwagon too, sometimes I'm scared when products are so hyped up that they won't be as good as everyone says but I love both of those for base products! Thanks for your comment :) xx

  18. Jasmin you need the LORAC palette! Honestly if you never buy another palette in you life, you just need this one! I take it with me everywhere and I love it so much! Thanks so much for your reply x

  19. Thanks Janneke! It's such a nice nude! What is your favourite MAC nude?

  20. Thanks for your comment Erica! The Too Faced primer is my obsessions! Mine is currently all gone and I need to repurchase it ASAP!

  21. Yes! Estee Lauder is great if you have some acne scarring like me! Most of mine has healed thankfully but when it was really bad it was truly my saviour! The NARS concealer isn't too pricey at Mecca. You should definitely check it out Sheri! Thanks for your comment girl :) xx

  22. Thanks so much Tasha! I really appreciate your comment, that is so nice of you to say! I would be so lost without the Lorac Pro Palette! I literally am going to need to buy a new one soon because I am hitting pan on so many eyeshadow shades! I use it everyday.

Sheer Glow is definitely worth the money. I find it is best to apply it with your fingertips and then blend in with a flat top kabuki brush. I always get a way nicer finish when I use my fingers because it warms up the formula!

  23. Looks like I'll be needing the Too Faced Hangover Primer. Sounds totally perfect. I love when a random product turns into something amazing!
