Obsessed with Obsession 2015

Although we may not always talk about it, being a blogger/vlogger can be lonely at times. There is such an engaging and interactive beauty community out there who we can connect with behind our computer screen and I am grateful to have met so many lovely people online through my blog. However, I've always wanted a chance to meet and network with these fellow bloggers who share my passion and get to actually hang out with them in the flesh!

Someone obviously was listening to my subconscious, because this month I had the pleasure of being invited to attend Obsession 2015 which is Brisbane's first beauty blogger exclusive event, organised by Kate from The Minted Beauty and Dani from Kaboom Cosmetics, both with amazing blogs themselves. Clearly they understood that there was a need for some sort of event in Brisbane where all these passionate beauty bloggers could get together and share a fun day of networking with brands and learning from the best in the industry.

I accepted the invitation with open arms and had one of the best days I can recall in a long time. There were already a few bloggers, I had met on my own who lived close to me like the gorgeous Tahana (Tahana Lee) and the beautiful Kate (Kflowermaquillage), but pretty much all the other girls I had only spoken with online. It turns out that everyone was very friendly and so easy to get along with (not that I expected any less) and it wasn't as daunting meeting everyone in real life as I had first imagined.

As a group, we were given a series of different presentations beginning with Benefit Australia who actually unveiled and let us keep the new Roller Lash Mascaras! They had an amazing presentation, and since Benefit has been one of my most loved brands, and one of the first high-end brands I ever used when I was younger, I was pretty starstruck and in awe during their presentation. I just felt so appreciative to be able to interact with marketing and training staff from Benefit, some of had flown in from Sydney just for this special event!

Next up we got to hear from our guest speaker, full-time Brisbane beauty blogger and vlogger, Jordy Cannon. I had already been a huge fan of Jordy, but hearing her talk was very inspirational and motivating for me. She was able to turn her blogging hobby into a full-time job which is something that I consider to be my own dream. She was amazingly down to earth and very approachable, and it was great to be able to ask her some very specific and in depth blogging questions! If you aren't already following her please check her out here.

Then we got split into smaller groups, to do a sort of "speed dating" with several different brands/stores that were positioned around the room. These included Plunkett Pharmaceuticals, Rouche Boutique, BOE Beauty, Premium Spa, Enbacci, Casual Curl, Elemis, Lush Cosmetics and Dunkle Authentic.

My favourite new brand that I discovered was definitely Dunkle Authentic. Meeting the founder of the brand, Molly Dunkle was such a great experience for me and I am so excited to get my hands on more of her products. The packaging, quality and focus on simplicity really won me over and I will definitely be doing a full review of this brand here on Bows & Pleats in the future.

Finally we came back as a group, and got to hear a presentation from Lush Cosmetics where we watched some of the fellow beauties create the Cupcake Fresh Face Mask from scratch! Then some winners from competitions leading up the event were announced and I was lucky enough to win the Obsession Instagram Competition scoring me a Furless Perfectly Pink Makeup Brush Set! It's so pretty!

We were all sent home with smiles on our faces, and gigantic goodie bags in our arms. I won't go into full details of all the items we received, since I really just wanted to share the experience with you, but if you're wondering why these bags weighed a ton, Tasha from Shiwashiful has a full breakdown of our goodie bags for you here, or you can watch this video from the lovely Jacquelyn from Hey There Jacquelyn who shows you all the treats we received!

I'd encourage you to try to link in with some fellow beauty bloggers or beauty enthusiasts in your area, and see if there is a similar event or forum that occurs where you live. It's an amazing experience to meet with people of whom you share a passion, and who speak your language. I was truly grateful for the experience, and have made some great new friends from the event!

Thank you so much to Dani and Kate for putting the event together, and to all the brands who sponsored the event. I loved it so much!!!

Have you ever met a fellow beauty enthusiast online? What friends have you met through a networking event?

Looks like you all had a great time. When I was living in Sydney there were events every week however now I'm in Canberra there is nothing. Blogging events are so heavily based in Sydney/Melbourne it's great to see some taking the initiative to build up this industry in other cities and states.
