I'm a huge fan of an understated lipstick and think that it is a great way to rock a more sophisticated look. Natural lip shades are ideal for a minimal makeup look or to pair with a fierce smokey eye. MAC Cosmetics make some of the best lipsticks I've ever used, and with such a diverse shade range as well as various finishes, I thought I'd share my top five "My Lips But Better" (MLBB) shades of lipstick from this brand with you. If you're interested in pretty lipstick pictures and swatches, this one will be for you (WARNING: picture heavy!)
I think it is important to remember that MLBB doesn't only mean shades that look like you aren't wearing any lipstick. I like to put any lipstick into this category that enhances the natural colour of your lips, and they can vary from light nudes to bolder burgundys, pinks and browns. Personally, these are my favourite types of lipsticks to wear to work and on an everyday basis which is why I thought I'd share my favourites with you!
1. Twig (Satin)
Twig is described as a soft, muted brownish-pink. It's a little deeper than some of the other shades, but still looks natural enough to work as an everyday lip colour that you could wear to school or work. I feel like it has a little bit of a burgundy hue. Twig almost has some burgundy tones mixed throughout it, making it a gorgeous fall/autumn shade.
2. Fast Play (Amplified)
Fast Play appeared to be the darkest swatch on my arm out of the five lipsticks listed here but on my lips it comes off a medium neutral shade and is still wearable for an every day look. As you can see, it is very similar to twig but perhaps slightly more pigmented due to the amplified finish, and it leans more pink whereas twig is more brown. MAC describes this shade as a slow and dirty neutral pink, and it definitely describes it well. This is a bolder nude but I think it would suit most skin tones really well.
3. Brave (Satin)
Brave is described as a muted pink-beige with a very subtle white pearl overtone. Brave leans more pink than beige and is a little cooler than some of the other shades. It's a nice MLBB colour and would suit any skin tone. This is a lovely everyday, natural shade that requires little to no effort and which I think most people would really enjoy!
4. Faux (Satin)
Faux is described as a muted-mauve pink and has been one of my favourite nude lipsticks for a while now (See my Top 10 Beauty Products of 2014). It's a beautiful beige pink shade and has a satin finish.
5. Modesty (Cremesheen)
Modesty is a muted neutral pink and a lighter nude. It's noticeable enough on the lips but still extremely natural and soft. It's slightly less pigmented than the other shades due to it being a cremesheen finish, however it's a gorgeous everyday neutral shade worth having in your collection.
