How-To: Keep Your Skin Hydrated This Winter

When the weather gets colder, we sometimes forget to adjust our skincare routines accordingly. Many people believe that just simply slapping on some extra moisturiser is enough to combat the colder months, but this is definitely not the case! There are lots of ways you can switch up your skincare routine to keep your skin feeling happy and hydrated! This post is all about my favourite products to keep my skin feeling soft and supple and to fight off those pesky dry patches.

Creamy Facial Moisturiser

Of course, it's important to apply a creamy facial moisturiser to keep skin feeling soft. This is a great moisturiser from A Bit Hippy* (full review here) that I love because it is thick and luxurious without being greasy or heavy. This moisturiser contains aloe vera, apricot kernel oil, coconut oil, licorice extract and vitamin e so it feels amazing on the skin and perfect for autumn and winter skincare routines. I love wearing this under my makeup and I don't find it oily on my skin.

Cream or Butter Cleanser

It's important to switch up your regular gel or foaming cleanser for a more nourishing formula. I personally love the Delicious Skin Clean Butter Cleanser* (featured in my recent May Favorites Post). This is what I consistently have been using each night to take off all of my makeup. It is a very thick, rich and creamy formula, that can be scooped out from the jar. You apply a pea size amount to the face and then massage it in and you can literally see all of your makeup coming off. This is the most amazing product for removing mascara and eyeliner and heavy eye makeup. It also feels extremely moisturising on the skin and is a great winter skincare addition.

Facial Exfoliant

It's a common misconception that you should avoid using facial scrubs when your skin is dry. It's so important that you exfoliate your skin to clear your pores of dead skin cells and reduce congestion. The Glycolic Scrub is my absolute favourite exfoliator from Skinstitut since it doubles up as a physical exfoliant with tiny granules containing jojoba beads in the formula, as well as a chemical exfoliant since it contains a high percentage of glycolic acid. It also contains tea tree oil to keep blemishes away and skin clear.

Nightime Moisturiser/ Facial Mask

This overnight mask from Origins has MAJOR holy grail status in my books (this is my third bottle). It is a must have for me whenever I am doing a long-haul flight or if I have any pesky dry patches on my face, I apply this before going to bed and wake up with much happier skin the next morning. I sometimes apply a small amount of this after my nighttime serum to add a boost of moisturiser. You can also apply a thick layer after cleansing and wear it as a mask overnight and wash off any remaining residue the next morning, although I have found usually my skin absorbs almost all of the moisturiser overnight. It contains apricot kernel oil and almond oil, smells amazing, and feels so luscious on the skin. It makes my face feel supple and look more youthful and glowing. If you buy one product to keep your skin hydrated this winter, buy this one (available at Mecca Maxima).

Nourishing Serum

When it comes to keeping your skin hydrated, serums are your best friend since they usually contain highly concentrated ingredients that can deeply penetrate the skin if applied after cleansing. 've been loving this Supple Silk Serum* from Delicious Skin which contains a blend of argan oil, rosehip oil, vitamin e, tea tree, peppermint, lavender and chamomile. I always apply this serum before I go to bed, so all the ingredients can sink into my skin overnight. It's also a little greasy so it wouldn't sit well underneath makeup but is amazing for your skin! It feels so nice once applied and I always wake up with my skin feeling extra soft when I apply this the night before. Don't be scared to use this if you have oily or acne-prone skin, just use a tiny amount and your skin will thank you!

Hydrating Serum

I've also really been loving this Nude Miracle Serum* hydrating serum from Nude By Nature. This is a great one to apply underneath your normal moisturiser during the day as it is not greasy or oily at all. If my skin is feeling extra dry, I will apply this serum + facial moisturiser + primer in that order. This serum contains green tea and hyaluronic acid which feel so nice on the skin. It's also great for adding some extra glow and illumination to the face and reducing redness. I'd definitely recommend this for a daytime serum.

Well, those are my winter skin must-have products! I hope you've found this post helpful and perhaps try out one of these products or something similar to keep your skin looking it's best! What are your favourite hydrating skincare products? I'd love to hear them!
