May Monthly Favourites: 2015

Another month has flown by and it's time to review monthly favourites! This was an awesome month for me since it was the month I started my blog last year and it's also my birthday month!!! I hope you're all doing well as the weather starts to get colder here in Australia, I've been embracing darker lips and more hydrating base products and skincare. I've come up with some new discoveries to share with you all this month, and some of them have been amazing finds so if you're interested to know what I've been loving, please keep reading!

My May 2015 Monthly Favourites

1. Colourpop Lippie Stix in Lumière ($5 USD)

ColourPop LippieStix in Lumière

If you haven't seen my latest blog post, all about my recent ColourPop Haul, you can check it out here. I recently picked up this lippie in the shade Lumière and I have been loving it! Some of the swatches I found online, leaned quite warm, but on my lips it comes off a cool-toned dusty rose/mauve shade. It's still quite neutral but definitely not a nude. I think it would suit a lot of different skintones and is a great everyday lip colour since it can easily be worn in an office or school environment and remain subtle but eye-catching.

2. Rimmel Scandaleyes Micro Eyeliner in Black

($12.95 AUD)

I have found myself reaching for this Rimmel Scandaleyes Micro Eyeliner almost everyday to make my eyes look more dramatic when I'm in a rush. I find the precise felt-tip applicator of this eyeliner is just so easy to use in order to create a fine line across the eyes if you aren't wanting a super dramatic eyeliner or wing. I like to start with a thin line from my wing to the inside of my eye and then draw it in thicker until you get the look you want. I rarely have trouble with this because the formula is smudge-free and stays on well. This is a pretty similar formula to my HG Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner and I think it's a great contender worth  trying if you are looking for a new liquid eyeliner,

3. Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation
($56 AUD)

I've had this foundation for a little while when I received it to replace by Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation which did not work for me (full review here). The sales assistant at Mecca suggested I try this one because it is also a full-coverage, hydrating and luminous foundation. The first few times I used this I didn't think much of it, perhaps it could have been the primers I was using underneath. Lately I have been pairing this with my Bare Minerals Brightening Foundation Primer and I love the results as you can see below. The coverage is excellent, the consistency is thin but not watery and blends into the skin seamlessly so it looks very natural. I am unsure about the shade matching, I got matched with the second lightest shade 1.2 which I feel is a little too light for me so I sometimes have to mix in a darker foundation with it or bronze up my face. Overall, I have been using this foundation a lot this month and I find it to be extremely long-lasting throughout the day and even into the evening. I think this one is definitely worth a try if you are looking for a new high-end full-coverage foundation that has a more luminous finish.

4. Sunday Riley Good Genes Serum ($142 AUD)

I have honestly been so excited to tell you all about this product! I was doing a lot of research into skincare as I was having a lot of issues with my skin looking blotchy, uneven and a lot of acne-scarring. I researched lots and lots of different products, which is difficult because everyone has different results but I settled on this one, never having tried Sunday Riley before. It is probably one of the most expensive skincare products I have ever purchased, but I have seen some amazing changes in my skin. I am going to do a full blog post on this one, as the results I have seen over the last 4 weeks have been phenomenal, I am talking at least a 50% reduction in redness and scarring and the texture of my skin has vastly improved as well. My skin is looking hydrated, plump and glowing.

Basically this product is a serum that can be used a few nights a week or everyday for certain skin types. It contains a high concentration of lactic acid which is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that chemically exfoliates the skin, improves skin's overall texture by moisturizing, sloughing off dead surface cells and promoting collagen growth. It smells like lemongrass, which some will like and some won't, but honestly I don't mind about the smell because I think this has been a real game changer for me! I am keeping my skincare routine very consistent along with this serum at night and I haven't had a blemish in weeks and have been going out without any makeup on which is honestly massive for me! *thanks skin gods*

5. Bait Hair Perfume in Daydreamer ($38 AUD)

After reading the lovely Celia's (Celia Spain) review of these hair perfumes here of these hair perfumes, I really wanted to try them! I often find that perfumes don't last that long on me, and she talked about how these hair perfumes are really long-lasting, and since I have long hair I was so curious to try them. Bait have a sample pack so you can trial all the different scents in mini 3 ml bottles currently on sale for just $12 AUD here. Otherwise a full size (50 ml) is $38 AUD. Similar to Celia, my favorite scent of them all is DayDreamer which is a gorgeous mixture of coconut and vanilla, yet to me it smells really unique and I don't have anything else like it in my collection. I will definitely be repurchasing this scent when it runs out as I love the idea of hair perfume!

6. IT Cosmetics CC Cream ($38 USD)

You know me, forever obsessed with base products! Now available at the Sephora in Sydney, IT Cosmetics has been growing on my radar and I have been dying to try some of their products. Lucky for me, the lovely Rosa from Lipstick n Linguine, offered to pick me up a deluxe sample of the CC Cream to try. I love this stuff! It isn't what you would expect when you think of CC Cream, it has amazing medium to full coverage while still being extremely hydrating. Amazingly, I find that it does stay put on the skin very well considering how nourishing the formula is. I have been loving this for lazy days when I don't feel like wearing much makeup and on the weekends. I have the shade medium and it suits me perfectly but does lean a little yellow.

If you live in Sydney or have access to Sephora, I'd highly suggest checking this out! IT Cosmetics is hard to source here in Australia so I hope it becomes more accessible soon because I am seriously impressed by this product!

7. Covergirl Ready, Set, Gorgeous Concealer

($11.95 AUD)

Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation and Concealer

I raved about the Covergirl Ready, Set, Gorgeous Foundation in my April Favourites last month, and this month I am still loving that foundation, but also the matching concealer! I honestly think it's an awesome dupe for the much more expensive Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. It gives me similar coverage and is my go-to for covering up blemishes and redness. I love how easy the formula is to blend out and it stays put on my face. For the price tag, you don't have much to lose to test it out! For reference, I am shade 210 in the foundation and medium (215/220) in the concealer, and I find it is a perfect match for me.

8. Bare Minerals Brightening Foundation Primer

($29 AUD)

Bare Minerals Prime Time Brightening Foundation Primer

I had heard some positive reviews of the original BareMinerals Prime Time Foundation Primer, but recently decided to pick up the brightening version to see what I thought. This primer is a gel like consistency, and instead of beng clear like the original, it has a slight beige pink tinge which brings about the brightening effect. The primer is silicone based, but still feels hydrating on the skin while creating a smooth and flawless base for foundation. I honestly love the weight of this on my face and it feels so comfortable without being greasy. It has paired really well with all the base products I've mentioned today and definitely has helped my base products to stay on longer. I'd highly recommend this primer for all skin types, including dry or oily.

9. Delicious Skin Clean Butter Cleanser* ($28 AUD)

Delicious Skin Deliciously Clean Butter Cleanser

Ahhhh, I am so in love with this cleanser! I am going to be doing a separate post all about the products I'm currently trialing from Delicious Skin who are an Australian skincare brand from New South Whales, but I just had to let you know about this amazing cleanser. It contains a mixture of organic coconut oil, grapeseed oil, vitamin E and other essential oils and natural ingredients. This butter cleanser literally feels amazing on the skin when you wet your face and take a pea size amount and massage it all over the face. It makes makeup melt away, including waterproof mascara and eyeliner and doesn't sting the eyes. I have had a full face of makeup on from a big night out, and in a few motions using this cleanser, all of my makeup was completely gone, and my skin feelt hydrated and soft. This has replaced by micellar water since I no longer need to take off my mascara or eyeliner separately. LOVE!!! Check this out!!!

Well, I hope you enjoyed my monthly favourites! I'd love to know what you have been loving this month. Please leave your blog and YouTube links below or leave me a comment! I love hearing from you all.

*This product was kindly sent to Bows & Pleats for consideration. All reviews are 100% honest and my own.
