Too Faced Born That Way Foundation: Review & Demo

If I had to choose a makeup product I am more obsessed with than all the others, lipstick would come close, but foundation wins every time. I just can't seem to steer clear of new releases and I'm always after the best base products possible to keep my skin looking flawless. In my opinion, there is no blush, lipstick or bronzer that is going to make you look as good as an amazing foundation. If you have a flawless base, everything else just seems to fall into place!

Although this new release from Too Faced called the Born This Way Foundation is coming to Mecca Maxima in Australia soon (August 25th), I just couldn't wait to get my paws on it and ordered it (along with some other goodies) from Sephora using Shop and Box. If you're interested to know more about ordering things from America, just let me know and I can write a post about it!

Back to the foundation ... If you're keen to know more about this product and see how this baby wears over a full night out, keep reading!!!

Some of my Too Faced Favourites!

According to Too Faced, the new Born This Way Foundation "masterfully diffuses the line between makeup and skin". It is a medium to full coverage foundation and I would consider it to be excellent coverage. You can build it up really well so you don't even need concealer!

The formula contains coconut water similar to the Too Faced Hangover Primer, and also contains hyaluronic acid to keep the skin hydrated. Although this is a high coverage foundation, I didn't find it to be drying at all! I didn't necessarily find it hydrating either but it just sat very nicely on the skin and didn't exaggerate any fine lines or dry areas but covered well over pores and spots.

If I was to compare the formula to another well-known foundation, I'd say it is similar in formulation to the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, perhaps slightly thinner in consistency and I find it to be a lot more blendable, and therefore seamless on the skin. To be clear, I really do like the Estee Lauder Double Wear and when I need a lot of coverage, I usually turn to this foundation but the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation has totally taken it's place and has become my new go-to going out foundation.

The packaging is very classy! It may not be the most travel friendly but it comes with a pomp for easy use and 1 pump is definitely enough to do a full face! A little goes a long way. It is housed in a gorgeous glass bottle and has golden writing embossed over the glass. The cover also has TF initials crafted in gold lettering so you feel real fancy and special, thanks Too Faced!

Based on swatches I saw online, I got the shade Light Beige and it is a perfect match for me despite the strange lighting in the photos below, it matches me well. For reference I am Desert Beige in Estee Lauder Double Wear, Fiji in Nars Sheer Glow, 3.5 in Urban Decay Naked Skin, 210 in Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous and N3 in L'Oreal True Match.

Left: Nothing on my face, Right: Born This Way Foundation

The best thing about the application of this foundation is that it blends out really well and covers over everything with ease. I find it sits really nicely on the skin and smooths over imperfections. As you can see it covered up my redness and blemishes without any trouble just with 1 layer of foundation. The finish is a very flawless, semi-satin finish.

The best part about this foundation, and what really makes it special for me compared to other foundations I've tried is its amazing lasting power. I applied this foundation at 9am, then went out for the entire day, shopping in the city and then out for dinner and drinks, not returning home until just after 9pm that night. As you can see from the photos, this foundation barely moved on my skin. There is some slight shine on my t-zone, but overall my skin still looks flawless through sunshine, sweat and general wear throughout the day and night. I am very impressed!!!

This is my new full coverage favourite and I would highly highly recommend picking this up from your local Sephora (available now in the US) or Mecca Maxima on August 25th!

Have you tried this foundation yet? Do you think you'll be picking it up when it is released here in Australia?
