April Coffee Break: 2016

If you've been following my blog for a while now, you'd know the drill! At the end of every month, I do a little roundup of non blog/beauty related things happening in my life so you can get to know me a little better! I hope you've been liking these updates so far! You can read my March Coffee Break here!

Makeup School Update
I've had a few people ask me how my makeup course is going so far so I thought I'd mention it here. So far I've really been enjoying it!!! It's a good mixture of theory and practical work, so I get to do a lot of hands-on work that I would have missed out on if I had of done an online course. We practice a lot of techniques on each other and switch up partners so we get to experience different skin types and face shops. There are only 10 girls in my class, who are from various age groups, but everyone also works full-time, which is a relief as we try to get most of our work completed in class since many of us are also time-poor. Just like any other course, there are assignments and exams, and unfortunately it's not just sitting and playing with makeup all day!

So far we've studied and practiced things such as colour correcting, colour-matching, colour theory, highlight/contour, face shapes, and lots of hygiene practices. For my assessment down the track, I will have to bring in models and complete a specific look and you get graded based on your personal appearance, customer service, client manner as well as your specific makeup skills. If any of you are more interested about the course, would you like a mini series about it? What questions would you have for me?

A Hair Change
As some of you may have seen, I wanted a bit of a change with my hair. which ended up being a big change! I went into my regular salon, and asked my stylist for a deep plum/dark brown base with a reddish/purple balayage. I love how it turned out but only a month later, the balayage has completely faded, which is pretty typical of red shades and now I'm not sure what to do. What are some things you can do with faded red hair? The ends had to be lightened to get the dye to take, so I wonder if I could go back to a subtle balayage with lighter brown on the bottom? What do you guys think?

Dress Up Party
I just thought I'd include this because I got a pretty crazy reaction on instagram to a 90's makeup look I created for a dress up party for a friend's 30th birthday party. I decided to do a grunge/punk-rocker look and I think it came out really well! Base is the Too Faced Cosmetics Born This Way Foundation in Light Beige with Ben Nye Conceal All Wheel in SK-1, and Australis Fresh and Flawless Powder in Deep Natural. Lipstick is the Australis Cosmetics Color Inject Mineral Lipstick in Grunge.

My husband Michael found this geocache hidden inside this hollow log near our house!

Michael and I have recently began geocaching! For those of you that don't know,  Geocaching is an international game that people play from all around the world and there are more than 2 million geocaches worldwide. You download the app and navigate your way to a geocache close to you. Usually they have descriptions to help you along your way. It's kind of like a treasure hunt, and people can leave little hints or clues. It's a really nice way to get outside and discover a part of your city/town that you may not have been to before. There are little treasures (geocaches) hidden all around you.

An example of what a geocache looks like

They come in different sizes likes small, medium or large, and different difficulty levels for how hard they are to find or how well they are hidden. Usually they are things like tiny sistema containers, or a little box or tube and inside is a log book and some little treasures or keepsakes. You can add your own knick-knack inside once you find the cache and write your name and the date in the log book, and you can take something out to put in a new cache. Then you put it back for the next person to find it. You can also use the app to log your find. It sounds pretty nerdy, but I don't really mind. Michael and I have been loving doing it and it has gotten us outside on the weekends and exploring more which I've been loving. More info here if you're keen. The app is free.

A Weekend Away
I was feeling pretty homesick over the past few weeks, so my thoughtful hubby booked us a weekend away in one of my absolute favourite spots - Mount Tamborine. It's only about 1.5 hour drive from where we live, but I love how it is usually quite a bit cooler, and the small town is very quiet and relaxing with quaint little cafes, shops and cottages.

We visited Fortitude Brewing Co

For some reason, it always makes me feel better when we go there, and the last time we were there was for our anniversary about three years ago. We had such a nice weekend and completed a few different hiking trails as well as just spending some time relaxing and now I'm definitely feeling refreshed and happy to be back home.

Well, I think those are all my updates for the month of April. I am super excited for May to arrive, as there are lots of birthdays in my family, including my own! Everyone loves their birthday month! Hopefully there will be an exciting haul to show you at the end of the month! If you can't spend money on makeup for your birthday, when can you spend it?

Sending you all lots of love!!! Thank-you so much to my loyal readers, I really appreciate each and every one of your comments. Please let me know what has been new with you and feel free to leave me any post requests as well!
