May Monthly Favourites: 2016

May was definitely a month of discovery for me, and I definitely made an active effort to incorporate some new products into my beauty regime. The cooler weather seems to be playing havoc on my skin, causing my face to feel dry yet still experiencing hormonal breakouts, which means new skincare saviours have been needed. I've also started trying out a few new haircare and beauty bits, so keep reading for my monthly roundup and to find out what I've been loving!

A great new addition to my makeup routine has been this Dermalogica Redness Relief Primer* which I've been trying out for about a full month now and can safely say it is a favourite! It has a silicone base which smooths the skin, yet still provides some hydration as well and does not feel greasy on the skin. This primer is green in colour so it is great for counteracting redness which is a big issue for me. I have a lot of redness on my cheeks and some acne scarring around my nose and chin so this primer is a great way to reduce the amount of concealer/foundation needed to cover these spots.

Some new haircare products from Tigi have recently popped across my desk which I have also really been enjoying as a way to switch it up from my regular products. The Tigi S-Factor Body Booster Plumping Spray* works well when lightly sprayed into towel-dried hair and targeted at the roots before you go ahead with a blowdry. It provides some added volume and control so it's easier to style your hair. I have also been using the Tigi S-Factor Flat Iron Shine Spray* which is a thermal protectant that boosts shine and protects hair from damage. This can be used on wet or dry hair and gives the nicest shine to the hair without feeling greasy or heavy. Both of these products literally smell like candy!!! I love spraying them in my hair because they smell so amazing!

Due to my skin being more breakout prone than normal, I've felt the need to introduce a serum specifically for fighting blemishes that is anti-bacterial and which helps to reduce my spots. Based on my own research, I decided to order this Cosmedix Clarity Blemish Fighting Serum. It had very positive reviews from the articles/blogs and is from a trusted brand. So far, I am enjoying this serum. The results haven't been super dramatic, but I believe everything with skincare takes time. This serum contains salicylic acid and pregnenolone which deeply exfoliate the skin in order to eliminate impurities and help balance oil production. It also contains willow herb, tea tree oil (great antibacterial ingredient) and aloe vera which work together to soothe and relax the appearance of agitated, problematic skin. I am liking this so far and will continue to use it to see further results. It has a yellow colour and is slightly tacky once applied so I feel this is best used at night.

My April Favourites included some lovely candles from the brand Circa Home, and this month I am back with another product from this brand but this time it is the Circa Home Fragrance Diffuser in Narcissus & Patchouli*. This is such a unique and beautiful scent. I have never used diffusers before but they are much stronger than your regular candle, and completely fill the room with their scent. These home fragrance diffusers are made in Australia using high quality fragrant oils and natural ingredients, and are designed to constantly diffuse a delicate scent throughout your living space. The glass bottle and packaging are 100% recyclable as well! I love having this scent in my living room and my husband agrees it is so pleasant and safe because you can keep the smell going without any need for an open flame. Love these!!!

A new makeup love in my life is this IT Cosmetics CC+ Radiance Ombre Bronzer, which I picked up on my recent trip to Sydney (read about my Sephora Australia Haul here). When I was looking around the store, this bronzer just caught my attention. It's massive in size with a frosted plastic cover and silver body. The bronzer itself is very unique with a matte brown that fades into a subtle highlight. This bronzer is great for contouring, and also works really well to give a sun-kissed glow with added radiance to the cheeks. I am obsessed and I honestly can't stop using this it is my new favourite!!! I love how you can use the darkest shade to contour, the lightest shade to highlight or swirl all together for a gorgeous bronzed glow.

You've probably already heard me rave about Skindinavia if you read my post about Setting Sprays for Every Budget, however usually you'll find me using the Skindinavia Bridal Makeup Finishing Spray which I just finished up in my March Empties. Recently I've switched things up, and started using the Skindinavia Oil Control Makeup Finishing Spray* which is designed for combination and oily skin types. This version is going to be my best friend during the summer when I'm super oily and makeup can barely stay on my face without melting off in the heat. This one has a more matte finish compared to the bridal version which is more dewy and natural.  The one thing both of these finishing sprays have in common from Skindinavia is that they ensure makeup stays on all day and night by setting everything into place. I would highly recommend them!

A real lifesaver for me this month has been these Dream Dots* which are a super cool and innovative little invention for those of us that get very red and inflamed blemishes. Dream dots are adhesive dots that are applied to the face after cleansing and are completely transparent. They use a patented gel technology that creates a moist healing environment for your blemish to maintain an ideal PH balance for quicker healing overnight. These are best applied before bed so they can be left on between 6-8 hours. When you wake up the dot turns white as the patch absorbs the contents of your pimple (exudates) and you just peel it off to reveal your spot which will be dramatically less red and visible.

I wasn't sure what to think of these when I first used them since I suffer from some very nasty pimples from time to time that are either under the skin or very painful and linger for several days. I can now say that I noticed a very dramatic difference when using Dream Dots. When I use these continuously over 2-3 days, my pimples are always gone or nearly gone by day 3 and they are less likely to scar. I used up an entire pack of these already, as I was using multiple each night during a severe breakout, and each morning I was amazed at how my skin stayed hydrated and healthy when I took these off, revealing less irritated and noticeable blemishes. I am no longer going to be using spot treatments, Dream Dots have totally replaced them all! I have bought myself a new box with my own money because I cannot be without these!!! New holy grail status for sure. You can purchase these from Terry White Chemists or online.

We all love highlighters, especially when they come in threes!!! This Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Twinkle Lighting Palette is stunning and I am have been using it non-stop since I purchased it in the Tarte Cosmetics 30% Off Sale. The centre shade (filtered light) is matte and works well to set the face, brighten under eyes or even just to use as a subtle matte highlight. The left shade (sunlight) is a warmer golden champagne highlight, while the right shade (moonlight) is cooler and has almost a pinky/purple hue which is hard to capture on camera. A gorgeous highlight palette that I am using a lot and which will come with me when I travel!

Last but not least, and also from Tarte Cosmetics is the Tarte Aquacealer Concealer which is a beautifully light and blendable concealer that works incredibly well under the eyes as well as to give the skin a highlighted, glowy finish. I use this in the shade 'light' which is a shade lighter than my skintone so I specifically use it to brighten and lighten certain areas of my face that I want to accentuate. I love this concealer because it blends out very easily, adds coverage and doesn't crease for me. The doe-foot applicator is larger than most concealer wands, making it easy to highlight your whole face in a pinch.

Sorry this was such a long-winded post! I probably should have done separate reviews for some of these products but I was so excited to tell you about them I wanted to include a bunch of products in this month's favourites! I hope there may be something here that interests you that you might explore more! I love discovering new products and sharing my favourite finds with you all.

What have you been loving this month?
