BH Cosmetics + Shaaanxo 18 Colour Eyeshadow & Lipstick Palette: Review & Swatches

This much anticipated collaboration between well-known NZ Beauty Youtuber Shannon Harris and BH Cosmetics features nine matte and shimmer eyeshadow shades and nine satin lipstick shades in a dual-sided palette. Shaanxo is quite well-regarded for her successful Youtube channel where she is known to her followers as Shaaanxo and also has her own xoBeauty line which is quickly gaining in popularity with their lashes and brush sets. The BH Cosmetics + Shaaanxo 18 Colour Eyeshadow & Lipstick Palette ($22 USD) is quite reasonably priced and today I'm providing my thoughts along with lots of swatches so you can decide if it's worth your investment!

Initial Thoughts

I definitely appreciate the fact that this eyeshadow palette is dual-sided, so the lipstick and eyeshadow shades are not sharing the same space. Eyeshadows kick up quite a bit of fallout no matter what the quality and this clever design avoids the problem of having loose eyeshadow mistakenly fall into lipstick pans which is a pet peeve of mine. The packaging consists of sturdy cardboard material that has a magnetic closure on both sides and a small mirror as an added bonus. The front contains the BH Cosmetics logo with Shaaanxo imprinted in gold writing. Even though the palette is dual-sided, it is definitely still lightweight, slim and suitable for travel which is great.

Lipsticks

I have heard a lot of people comment that they feel these type of lipstick pans remind them of cheap makeup palettes they had when they were younger, however these lipsticks are definitely not a reproduction of a cheap children's palette. Overall, the lipstick pans are pigmented and good quality, considering the price. I would recommend application with a lipstick brush to achieve a clean line. These lipsticks are also more of a satin/glossy formula so if you are more into mattes, these may not be your cup of tea. The formula of the lipsticks was a little inconsistent, as you can see from my swatches, the hot pink and red shades were extremely opaque and pigmented, however some of the nude shades were more sheer but still had a decent amount of pigmentation.

Eyeshadows

The formula of these eyeshadows is quite consistent with the Carli Bybel x BH Cosmetics Palette, you can read my review on that one here. They are pigmented, blendable with an average amount of fall out. There is a pretty good range of neutrals, but only three out of the nine shades are matte, so it would have been nice to see a deeper matte shade in the mix like a dark brown or navy. The matte yellow/orange shade is quite unique and I was happy to see it in this palette. I also like the burnt sienna shade quite a lot. I would have liked to see some more deep shades, both matte and shimmer to create more varied smokey eyes and dramatic looks.

Overall

This palette is definitely good quality considering the low price point and variation of both eyeshadows and lipsticks, making it a very compact and travel-friendly companion. This would be great for anyone beginning to build up their makeup collection or someone who loves neutral shades and would like to have a palette that provides them with a variation of lipstick options as well. I don't necessarily think the eyeshadow shades in this palette are revolutionary but there are a few unique shades that really draw me to this palette. I personally prefer the Carli Bybel Palette over this collaboration from BH Cosmetics because I am so in love with the highlighters and shimmer shades from that palette. Even still, I definitely think the Shaaanxo palette is worth checking out, depending on your style, and what shades you like to wear.

What do you think of this eyeshadow palette? It is still available on the BH Cosmetics website here and currently on sale for $14.50 USD.
Will you be picking this palette up or passing?
