June Monthly Favourites: 2016

Wow, can you guys believe we are officially halfway through 2016?! That is just so hard for me to get my head around. I feel like it has literally flown by before my eyes, but at the same time I know I have already done a lot this year! This month it has been quite chilly here in Brisbane, which isn't a sentence you hear often. Nothing compared to the weather that I grew up with as a child in Eastern Canada, but after being here for several years now I have acclimatised and I can feel the cold too! I've got a random mixture of favourites for you this month, but each one has been a product I've had a hard time putting down. I love writing about my new discoveries and I can't wait to share these with you!

As you guys may have read in my Tarte Haul Post, I recently picked up the Tartelette In Bloom Palette from their 30% off sale. I wasn't a huge fan of the original Tartelette Palette (all matte), however this palette has quickly become an absolute staple in my collection. It has the perfect mixture of mattes and shimmers, which have great pigmentation and blend out beautifully. The colours lean quite neutral, but you still have darker shades to do a nice smokey eye and even a dark burgundy shade to offer some diversity to the palette. The shimmer shades firecracker and funny girl are just AMAZING!!! I plan to do a full palette review with swatches of this palette, so stay tuned!

Next up we have an unexpected product which I received through the Bloggers United AU Event (Read my post about that here). This primer is from Boe Professional which is available through Big W stores at a very affordable price point. The Boe Professional Pro Finish Base Primer* is a water-based primer that is the perfect mixture between a creamy moisturiser and a silicone based primer. It just feels like a lovely creamy consistency that glides on and adds moisture while smoothing out the skin. It smells like coconut but isn't overpowering (similar to the Too Faced Hangover Primer scent and formula). I am absolutely loving this. It is very conveniently packaged in a tube and is easy for travel. I would highly recommend you try this, it works really well to prep my skin before makeup application and feels amazing!

How s-t-u-n-n-i-n-g is this perfume from VS? Can we just take a minute? I picked this up as a major YOLO gift to myself when I was at the airport for a business-related trip. I saw the gorgeous pink bow packaging, and knew it had to be mine. The Victoria Eau de Parfum is sweet, romantic, and sexy. The scent is described as consisting of red berries, Victoria rose, accompanied by crème brulee within the base of the perfume. It has quickly become one of my all-time favourite scents and I adore the bottle and packaging. Sadly it looks like it is no longer available on the Victoria's Secret website but can still be purchased through several perfume boutiques online.

I didn't necessarily have high hopes for this mascara, but it has pleasantly surprised me and quickly been added into my daily makeup routine. The Maybelline Volum' Express Pumped Up! Colossal Mascara has a big name, but delivers big volume with a nice plumping formula that really adds some extra thickness and volume to the lashes. I already have quite long lashes so I do like to mix it up sometimes with a more volumising formula instead of lengthening. The brush is quite large but once you get used to it, it's easy to use to build up the thickness of the lashes and fan them out. I haven't had any issues with smudging or flaking and the formula is a true black. Great for a daily mascara!

Another item which I received at the Bloggers United AU event is this Bioderma Hydrabio Serum* which is an intense moisturising serum for dehydrated skin. This is a lightweight, gel-like serum that works very effectively underneath makeup to add some extra moisture to the skin when it's feeling extra dry during the cooler months. It sinks quickly into the skin and I have tried multiple primers on tops and have never had any issues with it balling up. I also like to pop this on during no makeup days or even as an added moisturiser at night. It feels so good on the skin and I will definitely be repurchasing this when it runs out. It works so well, and is not heavy or greasy whatsoever.

I was lucky enough to be sent this Jane Iredale Great Shape Brow Kit* which you can purchase from This is a lovely brow kit that is super tiny and easy to take on the go. It contains a brow powder, clear brow wax, and a mini dual-ended brush with an angled brush and little spoolie, which are so convenient for touch-ups on the go! I have been using this everyday, and I find the brow powder can easily be worked into brow hairs for a super defined, yet natural finish. The clear brow gel is also great to keep all unruly hairs in place. I love the size of this kit and it has quickly replaced the other products I have been using. I have this in the shade Brunette which is perfect for my medium-dark brown hair.

With the cooler weather, my lips, cuticles and nose have all been dry, cracked and flaking. This multi-purpose balm from Boho Balm* is a 100% natural balm, containing no parabens, synthetic fragrances or petroleum based ingredients. It is made from olive oil, coconut oil and australian beeswax and honey. It can also be used on dry, cracked heels and even insect bites so it's great to have in your handbag for anything that might come up! I have mainly been using this on my lips, cuticles and on my nose and it has certainly improved these pesky dry areas and kept them feeling moisturised. A little bit goes quite a long way so just one pot would last you quite a long time.

Finally, if you read my Brand Highlight on RosehipPLUS Skincare, you would know that I have been obsessing over this RosehipPLUS Organic Daily Cream Cleanser* which is one of the nicest cleansers I have ever used. This is a rich cream cleanser that feels like you are applying a moisturiser to the skin but works really well  to remove oil, dirt and impurities from the skin. It leaves skin feeling soft, smooth and hydrated and would work really well for normal-dry skin types or for anyone who is suffering from dehydrated skin. Definitely a new skincare staple for me and one that I am excited to use each day!
