August Monthly Favourites: 2016

I actually struggled quite a bit with this month's favourites since I was really set on sticking to using some of my most coveted products from previous months. I had a huge influx of new products throughout June and July so August was a month of consolidation for me where I had already discovered many products and wanted to stick with my old faithfuls. I think we all have months where we aren't really in the mood to test out new products or go outside of our comfort zone. It must have been that month for me! I did manage to highlight a few new finds within skincare and tanning and even some makeup favourites I haven't yet mentioned on the blog before. I hope you enjoy reading through my recommendations.

First of all, I had to mention these awesome lipsticks - the Rimmel Sheer & Shine Lipstick Range which is very hydrating and comfortable on the lips. You can find my full review with swatches from earlier this month here. My favourite shades hands down have been 200 glow-rious pink, 600 spin all spring and 700 better & brighter.

A brand new addition to my collection is this Skinfood White Grape Fresh Light Pact, which I purchased locally from W Cosmetics, which stocks popular Asian skincare brands here in Australia. The packaging of this product really drew me in. This is basically just a pressed powder that folds out to reveal a powder puff for application, similar to a cushion foundation. I got the shade #23 natural beige which is a light-medium shade with a yellow undertone and works really well for me. I have been using this to set my foundation and I love how it has an illuminating finish and feels very fresh and radiant on the skin.

I have also been absoloutely loving some new offerings from Philosophy in the Philosophy Take a Deep Breath Oxygenating Gel Cream* and Eye Gel Cream*. The moisturiser especially, offers instant hydration but sinks instantly into the skin and has a mattifying effect so it sits so well under makeup and does not feel oily, greasy or heavy whatsoever. It reminds me a lot of the Bioderma Hydrabio Serum, however I would say it would be even better to wear under makeup since it instantly gets soaked up into the skin. I recently used this on a client who has sensitive skin and she had no reaction to it at all and asked me for a sample she loved how it felt so much! I also really enjoy the eye cream to use in the morning under makeup. The moisturiser does not contain SPF so it can be worn day or night.

Next up, as part of the Priceline 40% skincare sale (in which I was proudly very contained), I picked up the Bondi Sands Everyday Gradual Tanning Milk which has a lovely scent of cocoa butter. I have been using this product as a body moisturiser whenever I get out of the shower and although it does take 2-3 days to build up the colour so that it is noticeable, it gives a lovely bronzed glow and is pretty effortless. I have been a bit lazy with my tanning lately but have been pale from the Australian winter, and this has been a great multi-tasker product that has kept my dry skin controlled, while also adding a bit of colour to my body. I would definitely recommend this one as it's super easy, doesn't leave any residue on your clothes, quick-drying and smells nice!

In the makeup department, I am a little late to the party but I finally got a chance to really play around with the Manny MUA x Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Palette and try lots of different combinations on my eyes. I am truly in love! This is one that I didn't get around to reviewing on it's own on my blog but if this is something you'd be interested in, along with a little tutorial just let me know. This is the perfect day to night palette. It offers enough neutrals to easily do multiple daytime looks (especially with the first two rows) and then with the third row you have instant glam and night looks available with a duochrome brownish-green, burgundy-wine and brownish-plum. All these shades are super pigmented, blendable and very portable! Such an amazing palette in my eyes.

Finally, I have re-discovered the Too Faced Soul Mates Blushing Bronzer duo in Ross & Rachel, while rummaging through my makeup collection this month. This is an item which I got back in February 2015, featured here in my USA/Sephora Makeup Haul Post. I honestly didn't use this much until the last few weeks. I have always loved the heart packaging but just didn't reach for this much. I have been really enjoying using the bronzing shade to warm up my face and match my tan from the gradual moisturiser. It has a really nice tone that isn't too ashy or too orange, just the perfect bronzing shade. I also really like the blush shade to pop over the top, although I do wish it was a little bigger in the compact.

Well, there you have it! My little roundup for the month of August. Nothing too exciting, but I always try to be 100% honest in my favourites, and if there aren't many new products I am loving or that I have discovered, I will just have less to share with you that month! I hope you have enjoyed this favourites post and please let me know if there are any other reviews or post ideas you'd like me to get up for you before the end of the year!
