My Favourite Products from Skinstitut: A Guide to Flawless Skin

With my obsession for Skinstitut skincare in full swing, I thought I would dedicate another post to the brand and update you all on my favourite products. I started using Skinstitut products about a year and a half ago and I haven't looked back since. I was really tired of my skin constantly breaking out, and no skincare brands or regimes seemed to be doing the trick. I was walking past an Australian Skin Clinics in my local shopping centre, and the brand caught my eye, offering 3 products for $99, so I began my journey with Skinstitut and haven't looked back since. I'm sure not every product will work for you, but I can promise you that you will find at least one product that you love from this brand as they have products that cater to every skin type and skin concern. If you'd like to read more about some of my favourite Skinstitut products, I have an older post you can read here.

As you can see from the Skinstitut packaging, they don't mess around with frills or intricate designs and each product has a specific purpose and is packed with scientifically-proven, evidence-based ingredients. None of the products have artificial fragrance, and although they may not feel or smell as nice as some of the other products I have tried, they do what they say they do and have improved my skin substantially!

Starting out with cleansers and scrubs, there is a variety of products to choose from, depending on your needs. For removing all my makeup and what I generally use as my initial product to cleanse, you can't go wrong with the Skinstitut Gentle Cleanser* which is a very mild cleanser that is non-irritating and is perfect for even the most sensitive skin types. It contains Green Tea, Goji Berry, Aloe Vera and Vitamin E so it is very hydrating and doesn't leave the skin feeling tight or dry. This works well to remove makeup, oil, dirt and grime built up from the day and then you can go in with your second cleanser.

Next up, I have started to really love the Skinstitut L-Lactic Cleanser* which hydrates, refines and nourishes the skin. This product provides a deep cleanse and gentle exfoliation for all skin types, especially dry. This cleanser has a very runny consistency and a strange smell, but it really does the job! I find it does a great job at exfoliating and decongesting the skin through the high percentage of lactic acid. It also contains Goji Berry, Seaweed and Vitamins B & E so it doesn't dry out the skin like other cleansers I have tried for my breakouts.

From the glycolic range, which I did mention in my previous blog post here, I really love the Skinstitut Glycolic Cleanser* which has a creamier, thicker consistency and a chemical smell. This cleanser has the strongest intensity of the 3, containing antibacterial tea-tree oil and 12% glycolic acid. This cleanser works its magic to decongest and exfoliate the skin. Due to the high percentage of glycolic, I recommend only using this one 1-3 times a week, depending on your skin type as it can cause a drying effect. I use it twice a week and it works great for me.

Finally, the holy grail of all holy grails is the Skinstitut Glycolic Scrub* which is a deep cleansing scrub for a smoother complexion. This product is high intensity, containing 14% glycolic acid and provides controlled exfoliation for most skin types except red, irritated or sensitive. This one contains jojoba beads for hydration and also tea tree oil to treat bacteria. I only use this twice a week because my cheeks can be rather sensitive but it works so well at evening out my uneven skin and smoothing out dry, rough patches of skin. It is certainly my go-to facial exfoliant and a little goes a long way!

Next up, some of my favourite products from Skinstitut are their serums that are used to correct certain skin conditions. I use many of the serums to treat different areas of my skin that address my particular skin concerns.

Firstly, I use Skinstitut Rejuvenate 15 Serum* each morning underneath my moisturiser and primer. I mainly use this product to assist with skin cell renewal and to help with my acne scarring and pigmentation. The serum is aimed mostly for dehydrated, sun damaged and ageing skin. It deeply hydrates and is rich in copper, minerals and peptides to assist in accelerating skin renewal. This serum is very lightweight and sinks into the skin instantly. I have no troubles wearing it underneath makeup and I have seen a great reduction in my acne scarring from this product.

Next up, each night I apply the Skinstitut Even Blend Serum* which is a medium intensity serum that reduces the appearance of uneven tone caused by sun exposure, skin inflammation or hormone imbalance. This serum is a transparent orange colour and is very lightweight. This product addresses age spots, skin discolouration and brightens uneven skin tone resulting in a more luminous and radiant complexion. I feel like these two serums work hand in hand to assist with creating a more even skin tone and reducing my red blotches.

Finally, a serum I have mentioned previously but I still love so much is the Skinstitut Retinol Serum* which is a high intensity serum containing Vitamin A to promote cell renewal in the skin by increasing collagen and elastin production. Through regular use of this serum, skin appears smoother with a clearer, lifted and more even skin tone. This is one that slowly has to be introduced into your routine as it can make skin more sensitive, especially to UV rays so you have to be diligent about using your SPF daily. This serum is definitely hydrated mainly at acne-prone and breakout prone skin types. I use this each night, mixed in with my even blend serum.

Finally, a wonder product that I have recently discovered from Skinstitut this winter has been the Skinstitut Multi-Active Oil* which is a little multi-tasking wonder product! Containing coenzyme Q10, macadamia, rosehip and avocado oil, this powerful cocktail protects the skin against free radical damage while also deeply hydrating. I love applying this before bed and allowing it to soak into my skin overnight. I find that it reduces any irritation or sensitivity I may have and seems to strengthen my skin. It also assists to improve skin's radiance, brightness and texture. This is a very true oil, in that it can feel a little greasy on the skin but it is very lightweight and easy to pop on before bed. An absolute must-have for me whenever my skin is feeling dull or dry.

Well, that is a roundup of my absolute must-have products from Skinstitut! I would highly recommend you trying some products from this skincare brand, as they really are very effective and have assisted my skin so much over the past few years.

Recently, I was lucky enough to be offered the chance to get a customised treatment from Zoe Devine, a Skinstitut Expert when it comes to Skinsitut's treatments and best products. I was given the chance to try a Skinstitut Chemical Peel that was customized for my particular needs. If you are not familiar with chemical peels, they aren't as scary as they sound! Chemical peeling is an accelerated exfoliation of the skin induced by a chemical agent such as glycolic or mandelic acid. Superficial peeling agents cause an increased slough of the outer layers of the skin resulting in a mild to moderate peeling. The superficial peeling will result in skin renewal and assist with the reduction or disappearance of sun damage, pigmentation, acne lesions, fine lines and wrinkles. Skinstitut peels are made from a variety of potent cosmedical skincare ingredients such as botanical vitamin A, natural fruit acids and enzymes.

This was my first time having a proper chemical peel and it was very interesting! I found that my skin felt very hot and tingling during the treatment. 1-2 days after the peel my skin felt very tight, and then over the next two weeks I experienced my skin "purging" and had many breakouts come to the surface as well as minor peeling around my nose, but nothing severe. It takes about 3 weeks for your skin to go back to normal, so I wouldn't suggest trying this if you have a special occasion coming up! After the 3 weeks, you are left with much clearer and less congested skin after the peel. I have to say I am super happy with the results, and will continue my regular routine of getting Microdermabrasion every few months as that also seems to help keep my breakouts at bay.

My skin is looking happy, healthy and clearer than ever! I definitely have Skinstitut to thank! That being said, I do try to be very diligent with my skincare routine as well.
