November Monthly Favourites: 2016

Can you believe it's less than a month until Christmas? This year really has flown by and I am so looking forward to the holidays! As the weather gets warmer here in Australia, I've had to change up my beauty routine a little to ensure that my makeup lasts throughout the day. I've definitely had to seek out more long-lasting base products and experiment with my skincare combinations. I have also been trying out some new lip products that I am excited to share with you. To find out what I have been loving this month, keep reading!

First up, I have been really enjoying the latest foundation release from Rimmel with the Rimmel Fresher Skin Foundation* - this one is specifically designed for combination skin which I have myself (yippee) so the formula encompasses a good mixture of hydration as well as longevity. The formula is very light and feels so natural on the skin while still offering a light to medium coverage. This foundation has had a lot of mixed reviews, so I would suggest that you try out a sample of it if you can before committing to purchase as it may work differently for you skin. I like this for an everyday foundation to wear on work days or when I'm running errands. It feels really light and wears really well. It comes in 8 different shades for just $18.95 AUD. Please let me know if you'd like to see a full in depth review with before/after photos.

You may have already read my Shanghai Suzy 16/17 Cocktails at Sunset Collection* post (read here) which has full swatches of every shade from the entire range. The whipped matte formula of these lipsticks is absoloutely stunning and I have been wearing them non-stop! Pictured here are Miss Bianca Mango Sunset* and Miss Chloe Toffee*.

One base that I have been loving throughout the year, but which I haven't yet mentioned on the blog is the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation. This is a cult favourite for a reason and often used by makeup artists due to it's incredible finish which looks amazing for HD photos. This is personally a foundation that I stock in my MUA freelance kit and one that I love to use myself. I use the shade N118 or Y325 which is a neutral light-medium shade that suits me really well. I find this foundation lasts a really long time on my skin and it is one of my top choices when I am going out for a special evening and I want my skin to look amazing. There are over 40 shades to choose from with this foundation range, making it a dream to find the perfect match for you.

Next we have some essential base products that I have been using in this hot weather! I have been loving the Mac Cosmetics Oil Control Lotion to start my base, which is a lightweight moisturiser that offers great oil control. I love the way this feels so creamy and hydrating while still having a matte finish to the skin. I have been using this first and then using Benefit the Porefessional Matte Rescue which is a mattifying gel that works well to both hydrate and prime the skin. I hated the original porefessional primer from Benefit but they are nothing the same, despite having a similar name. This one feels just like a moisturiser going on and really helps to reduce oil and shine. Using these two products together has really helped to control oil with the summer heat and keep my foundation looking amazing. Finally, I like to finish off my makeup look with the L'Oreal Infallible Fixing Mist* which is a very affordable drugstore alternative to other setting sprays (you can read a post more about this here). I really like this setting spray and really feel like it locks in my makeup for the day. It has been my go-to each morning before I head out the door.

Another lip product that I have really been loving is the Vani-T Mineral Lip Glaze* collection which contain 100% pigment as well as vitamin E, so they are super glossy, hydrating and aren't sticky like many other lip glosses I have tried. The shades are quite neutral and beautiful and pair well with so many of my already existing lipstick shades. Some of the shades are more matte, while others have quite a bit of shimmer. I like mixing it up and using a different shade depending on my mood. Featured here are french kiss (left) and glamarazzi (right) which is a dead ringer for NARS orgasm with lots of gorgeous shimmer.

Finally, if you read my Beauty Christmas Gift Guide for 2016, you would have seen that I have been totally loving the Too Faced Merry Macarons Palette which is just stunning and provides a great mixture of neutrals, with pops of holiday colour. Tiramisu is the perfect transition shade in my opinion with Banana Cream being one of my favourite lid shades for a super easy eyeshadow look. Chocolate Raspberry is also a gorgeous reddish-brown with shimmer that looks stunning in a smokey eye. You can't go wrong with this palette. I am so happy that I picked it up. It's super light, thin and travel-friendly, although it would have been nice if they had of included a mirror in the palette.

Well, that concludes my November favourites, from lips to foundations to base products, I have tried to keep things simple at Bows & Pleats HQ. Of course, I'm always trying out new products to see what new items may be out there and of interest for you but I think I have found some amazing products this year that I will be sticking with for a while!

Please let me know if you would be interested to see a Best of Beauty 2016! Last year I did makeup, as well as skincare categories. This would take the place of my usually December Monthly Favourites. Let me know what you would like to see!
