How-To: Create Soft, Natural Waves with a Straightener* (collab with ghd)

Hi everyone! Today I thought I would bring you something a little different with a hair tutorial! I was kindly gifted a ghd Platinum Styler* to show you how you can not only get super sleek and straight hair but also natural waves with the same wand! I've never tried to curl my hair with a straightener before but it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it! Keep reading to see my tutorial - it's great for when you want to add a little glam to your hair!

The ghd Platinum Styler is the newest version from ghd that offers intelligent tri-zone technology so that a safe heat of 185 degrees is maintained for the hair, which heats each section of hair evenly from root to tip. I have also found the straightener leaves my hair feeling super smooth and silky, and the glossy plates don't get my hair caught or tangled. When using the ghd, I have found that my hairstyle lasts 2-3 days even with gym workouts, or putting my hair up.

My favourite feature of the new ghd is that it has an automatic shut off after 30 minutes of non-use, which is so perfect for me, in case I forget to turn it off while getting ready for work early in the morning.

I've never actually tried curling my hair with a straightener before but I thought I'd give it a shot and then walk you through the process with a tutorial! You can find so many amazing hair tutorials on the ghd website here: https://www.ghdhair.com/au/hairstyles

The tutorial that I decided to follow for this look is the Licence to Curl tutorial which you can find here: https://www.ghdhair.com/au/hairstyles/curly/copper-luxe-how-to-licence-to-curl - I personally found the video so helpful and informative, considering it was my first time ever trying to curl my hair with a straightening wand.

I've included some pictures below which takes you through the steps I took to re-create this look!

Before - Not looking so hot!

Products You'll Need:

  • Hair Clip
  • Paddle Brush
  • Dry Shampoo - Use this if your roots are feeling a little greasy or if you want to add a little extra volume to your hair
  • Heat Protectant
  • Shine Mist
  • Comb
  • ghd Platinum Styler*

Step One: Mist hair with a heat protectant

Step Two: Use a comb to create a deep side part and section hair above the ear using a clip

Step Three: Place your ghd Platinum Styler at the root and rotate 360° as you glide through to the ends

Step Four: Repeat this technique, always working in one direction away from the face

As you can see, the ghd creates beautiful bouncy curls.

Step Five: Brush out the curls with a paddle brush for an ultra glam finish

Step Six: Mist with a finishing spray for added shine

And here is the finished look! I find that brushing out the curls creates a much more soft and natural look.

What do you think of this look? I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial and maybe you are inspired to use your straightener to create some curls yourself. If you are in the market for a new straightener, I would highly recommend the ghd Platinum Styler, which is honestly one of the best straightening wands I've ever used! It has made my hair feel shinier, smoother and stronger!

Have you ever tried to curl your hair with a straightener?
